EGR Delete? (Grover Dill come in!)

i noticed on your car you dont have an EGR plate it itlooks really good, how would i go about doing this? THANKS!

may i ask why delete egr?? Egr as no affect on performance what so ever. Considering it is shut off at WOT and hard acell so it doesnt matter. Egr allows us to run our cars leaner down the highway (steady state cruise) to get better gas mileage while not raising N0X emissions. with out a egr the pcm stradegy will be to rich'n the a/f mixture up a tad to avoid pinging/detonation during cruise those causing a slight decrease in fuel mileage.

i deleted mine on my 306, no pinging or cruising detonation, and it idles just fine, the reason i didn't put it on is because i got my TB without a spacer so i didn't want to spend the extra $50 just to get a damn spacer so i deleted it. excuse the dirty engine bay (it has since been cleaned )

It weighs something, it's one more thing in the way, it can cause vacuum leaks.

egr isnt on at idle so it shouldnt affect your idle. So i would have expected it to be good, as it is.

for me it was because of throttle linkage/valve cover clearence. i still had to grind the throttle bracket to clear these tall covers.

If you canot turn off the function in the computer, leave it.

I had mine shut off with my custom SCT tune/chip

For the delete process just remove anything that is part of the EGR system and plug any open holes. There is a EGR simulator on ebay which will get the check engine light to shut off, or there is a thread here which gives directions on how to build your own for a couple of bucks at Radio Shack.

I must say though that I personally had removed the EGR on my car when first swapping the 351w in. Now after having learned how EGR works, I will be making great efforts to get it back onto the 408 stroker. As far as I am concerned there is no benefit to removing it that makes all the negatives worth the hassle. If it works leave it. If it doesn't work patch it together until you have a chance to fix it right.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'd pay attention to GroverDill and 89 rdgt on this one. Unless you can turn off the egr function in the ecu (via chip, tweecer, pms, eec tuner, etc.), then you're better off not getting rid of the egr system. Other than clutter, it's all upside anyway.

well, my BBK CAI is hitting the fendwell. how else can i fix this?

ahh the BFH... good stress releiver too

seriously though cut a little bit off of the pipe that goes to the throttle body at the end, should give it abit more room, really you only need to take of flike 1/4-1/2 inch at the most

also i should have cleared up that i am getting the function in the computer turned off for the EGR system, i ditched everything and it really cleans up the engine bay without a million vacume lines everywhere. i am still running with no EGR and i would like to see how much it really improves gas milage cause i can't see it making a whole lot of difference.. maybe like 1/2 mile to the gallon more

That is precisely how I adjusted mine - mine's all custom made with mandrel bent insulated 3.5" and 3.0" exhaust ells -- had to keep shortening the end of the ell that connects to the throttle body until the system cleared the strut tower.
