will the check engine light come on if i get rid of the tube and cap off the ends.

Not as long as you push the plunger halfway down and secure it.

Anyway really. I've seen guys use wire ties, plastic caps and stuff. I just taped mine haflway down until I can find something better to secure it with.

no just cap off your header and leave the egr open. thats how mine is and it never set the check engine light off. also i never pushed the plunger in.

FYI, I depressed the plunger with a yellow wire nut pressed onto the sensor with a vise, then I secured that with a hose clamp.

there is absolutely no performance gain from removing the egr valve. the only reason i did it was to clean up the engine bay some. if you are leaving the sensor bolted to the intake elbow and only capping off the tube, i would just leave it alone.

i am not doing it for the performance. my tube was leaking and i even tried getting a new tube but still no luck. i capped it off last night and so far the driveability is much better. can you elaborate a little bit on your last sentence. what do you mean by leave it alone.

well, being that there was a problem with the tube, that makes it a whole other story. as far as leaving it alone, the egr is completely closed at WOT. the only time it does anything is at part throttle which is why i said there is absolutely no perfromance increase by removing it. the only correct way to remove the egr is to completely remove the entire thing from the intake elbow, use a blockoff plate on the elbow, cap the header, and remove the egr system in the eec with a tweecer , pms, or custom chip.

Yep, a 5\8" flare nut on the EGR from Home Depot will do just nicely, no need to push the plunger in on mine either.

i did not secure the plunger and so far no CEL

I didn't secure the plunger either. I put Fox LT headers on so all I did was screw on the 5\8" flare nut from Home Depot onto the EGR valve, and I've never had the dreaded CEL either. That being said you should only disconnect your EGR if you've shut the EGR off inside of the computer with a tuner (I didn't do this and am putting a Fox EGR setup on now), otherwise your computer is still adding a lot of timing to compensate for the exhaust gases that should be present. This could lead to the ping thing. My 2 cents.
