Hi, I've been having trouble with my 2000 GT having rough idle and feeling sluggish for awhile now. I've gone through many different things to try to figure it out: replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, PCV, checked for vacuum leaks, installed K&N CAI, cleaned the MAF, cleaned the IAC, used fuel injector cleaner, etc, etc. Most recently, I took the EGR valve off and checked it out - from what I could tell it mechanically seemed to be working properly. It was sealing well, the valve would open if vacuum was applied, so I put it back on and next time I went for a drive, my idle problem was gone and my car felt more powerful. Problem is - I forgot to put the vacuum hose back on to the valve. Once I put it back on the problem was back! I have a Haynes manual and went through some checks of the rest of the EGR system and didn't find any problems.

Any body have an idea what is going on??

P.

The system appears to be applying vacuum to the EGR valve at the inappropriate time (i.e. at idle.)

You might check the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid.

Wouldn't it be throwing OBD codes if the EGR was stuck open? It's supposed to close at idle and WOT.
