i have recently installed JBL headers in my 95 mustang...
we struggled a lot because of the egr tube...
i just wanted to know if it was better to delete it or keep the egr valve

I just made a solid gasket to put in between the valve and the intake manifold. Then I put caps over the header port and the EGR valve inlet (you can find them on Ebay). That way you can leave the valve plugged in and not set a light. It is true that you can get some mid load knock without the EGR, but if you can chip your car then jsut disable the EGR entirely. It will hurt fuel economy a bit, but it will keep the intake and heads a lot cleaner. One of my fellow calibratoers stated it well: You shouldn't feed an engine it's own S$#t!

I have my EGR deleted and havn't had any knock issues. This is the first I have heard of that being an issue, but that doens't mean some people haven't experienced it. Every car is different even the same year, same mods can have different results.

I run premium fuel in mine, slightly advanced timing and have not had any problems with knocking through out the RPM's.

Good luck!

You can make a tube from soft copper tubing found at your local
hardware store without too much trouble :)

I did it myself and it really wasn't all that bad :nono:

Like was said above :D

The correct way to not use it is to tell the pcm it is no longer in use ;)

Yes ... you can take it off ...
Yes ... you can disable it mechanically ...
however
When you do such a thing ........

You run the risk of ping issues

The GT Stangs have very high spark and lean mixtures at light/mid
load conditions :(

therefore

such egr removal methods can very well cause the ping thing to
rear it's ugly head :bang:

Cobra Stangs are not quite as bad as the GT's due to different spark
and fuel settings but still ... same thing might happen to them as well

I have mine disabled with my tweecer and also get the ping every now and then. I'm running the 95 Cobra R tune but never compared it with GT or Cobra tunes. The only reason I disabled mine was the threads are stripped on the header and won't hold a seal.

You know ... I tried several times to build a tune based on the ZA0 file
but I never could get it to behave as stable as using the j4j1

Yes ... I made sure to put the motor size back to 302 ci :)

I live in Texas so I deal with hot temps in the summer which did bring on
the ping thing

I captured the occurrence with datalogging :nice:

Then ... all I had to do was just hose around with appropiate load row
values in spark/fuel tables to kill the ping :D
