the egr valve recirculates unburnt gas back into the engine to be burnt again thus lowering emissions. All of that stuff is just to lower emissions, and if you have testings... good luck passing without all of it.
Ditto. But if all that other stuff is gone, you can ditch the EGR too. Removing it will throw a code though and you'll get a check engine light a couple minutes after starting it. That can be programmed out, or a ghetto fix can be done by making something to physically hold the EGR plunger down.

I removed my egr this past winter when reassembling my motor. I simply left the valve pluged in and kept the vacime line attached. I cut an aluminum spacer to act as a block off plate betwwen the valve and the intake.My headers were of a fox body so they did not have the egr pipe coming off them. the valve is in place and the computer thinks it is actully working, but it is there is no exahust hooked up to it.
Yup Fox body BBK equal length shorties. no clearence issues once they were on. Getting them into place was another story. I'm running a Pypes O/R x-pipe for a sn95. Had problems getting pipe to fit on flanges, and still have a very small leak. but otherwise they are ok.

Yes, the exhaust side is open, however where the valve attaches to the intake I have a 1/16 inch thick piece of aluminum as a block off so there is no actual open area, the intake is still sealed. I can send you a picture of it tonight if you would like.
