egr?

i recently found out that i have and issue withe my egr sys, and oil is getting into my intake and causeing pinging. I am i wrong to assume that a oil seperator and some sea foam will clear this problem up.
if the oil is coming from the exhaust thru the egr tube, i don't think you can put an oil seperator on that. oil seperators are usually put on pcv hookups, not egrs.

i don't know anything about sea foam.

More importantly, why is oil coming through your exhaust? Did you actually mean EGR, or do you mean PCV? If you're talking about the hose that comes from the lower intake to the upper intake (explaining the oil in the intake) then that's the PCV system. An oil seperator will help tremendously, I dare say it would fix the oil problem. Sea foam is always a good idea on a high mileage motor too.

I take it somebody else diagnosed this problem? (you keep saying he) Your EGR flows directly from your passenger side header (#2 cylinder primary IIRC) to your intake. I don't see how unburned oil can be getting into your intake from your EGR. Any oil that would be exiting the exahaust would be in the form of smoke from being burned. Maybe I'm wrong, though I don't think so. Either way, I have NEVER heard of oil going through your EGR system.

I agree with Chris. Oil would not make it into the EGR, nor up the piping to the intake.

Here is my thinking (let's run with this): if you did have oil making it into the EGR, that means that oil would be easily making it into the exhaust, and you would have plumes of smoke coming out the exhaust.

Good luck.

ok i talked to him again. He said he wants me to put a oil seperator on and he wants to talk about doing something else to the egr, maybe a delete. I am getting rid of the smog pump when i dump the cats and geta off road x-pipe. he also said i need a harness that prevents the idot light from coming on. Does any of this make sence to you guys. am i getting my info mixed up

Moose, you don't need a harness to keep the check engine light from coming on. Search for EGR delete and you will find a TON of information on it, and the steps /parts needed.

(I would recommend NOT deleting the EGR however)

The oil separator will pretty much cure that issue....I had a "drinker" myself and can say it did work in my case....
I deleted my EGR/smog 4 years ago...I have seen no issues related to removing it...I simply set the EGR plunger 1/2 way and secured it to keep the check engine light off, there are holes to block and vac lines that need to be plugged to..The harness he speaks of can be had...plug it in and its a done deal...
The thinking is your at more of a loss with EGR delete....In my case I just removed it to clean things up...

I would also recommend a nice separator like Andy used (his is Steeda IIRC). I used a cheaper one (for air tools) and found that the element became restrictive. I am currently running without the element (using the separator as a catch can of sorts) because I dont want to clean the filter once a week.
Justin noticed similar issues and cleaned his filter element and said the separator was more effective again. I dont know what he is doing with his at this point (cleaning the filter periodically, etc). He might have more info.

Good luck.
