Eleanor tail panel question

I'm getting close to having this all figured out fellas, so be patient with me and the all things Eleanor q's. Was the tail panel the same for 67 and 68 and if not, what was/is different? THANKS.

The 67 is different from the 68....

The tail lights are different.

67 Shelby Style taillights...

They used the 67-68 Cougar lenses & housing, plus custom trim rings, a specific fiberglass panel, and Shelby-Specific reinforcement, as most of the taillight panel was removed to accomodate.

68 Shelby Taillights.....

The 68's used the 1965 T-Bird assemblies complete, a specific taillight panel, and only had holes cut in the original taillight panel. The 68's were sequential.

The Elen***** panels have no gas cap opening, as they moved the filler to the fender. Keep that in mind!

Thanks. Clarify then please, was the panel different in 67 and 68 and why? I need to figure out what panel to use for 67 Cougar lights with the gas cap hole in it. I'm not moving filler.

The panel you will need then is a 1967 SHELBY taillight panel. That is what I used on the blue convert above. The difference in the panels from 67 to 68 is dramatic, as each panel is designed specifically to hold the specific taillights, as shown above in the pics.

Again, I am sure Jay can get the panel you need, the taillights are the harder thing to find. Branda has the trim rings. He also has the fiberglass.

I like the stock taillights better with the shebly wing on the fastbacks.

The 67 one has points toward the end caps.

Jay's panel is the 67. A little more work to make it work, but I think better looking.

Easy to root for them this year. I'm PSU class of 82. We were pretty good then too.

Both 68's.

The thicker the fiberglass, the better the piece. Originals are quite beefy.

If you need a pic of '67 boxes, I can help you out. But on '68's only the sockets protruded into the trunk and they were covered by cardboard covers. Let me know exactly what you need if it's '67-specific and I'll shoot a few pics.

These first two pics show the box and how it mounts in the car. I bought these on ebay and they are perfect and well made. I had a heck of a time getting them in the car, because I didn't know how they were supposed to sit in the car. They have two mounting lips, one on top and one on bottom. I finally came to the conclusion they need to be mounted so the top lip is inside the trunk and the lower lip is outside. Any other way I tried them left either a huge gap on the side or forced the 'glass panel to sit too far rearward. The boxes are not welded in, but once you get the whole panel mounted in, they are extremely solid.
