Hello guys, when i bought my car my cd player it came with didnt turn on, im not sure if it dosent work or it was just disconnected, i was going to take it to circuit city to see what works and what dosent, cd player, speakers, etc. but i decided to take it out and see what up with it. I got a few pics for you guys to see, its really strange, the cd player has three wires coming out of it, and in the back there 2 wires one small black one and a thick black one that looks like an rca wire or a power wire. The cd player has small yellow, blue and black wires, im stumped, when i took it out i think something was connected cause i felt a bit of resistance but it came out eaily so im guessing its that thick black wire and it just slipped out, again it dosent turn on or anything so im not sure heres some pics, any help please?

Heres the cd player, it looks like an old aftermarket sony player...

Ok, the large thick cable is the antenna. The red wire is your ignition power and yellow is your constant power wire. The small black is a ground wire.

The amp/ant wire is a used on an amp if you have one, to tell it when to turn on, or a power antenna if you have one to tell it when to raise.

is that thick black wire suposed to be straight?? and does it go in that big hole to the right of the cd player?

the only wire in the back is the small black wire which im guessing is the ground like you said, theres nothing to connect the yellow and red one too, and to connect the wires i just strip it and close them togetther right?

The thick black wire is your Antenna. It is supposed to be bent (not straight) and plugs right into the back of the radio (big hole).

DONT ASSUME THE BLACK WIRE COMMING FROM THE CAR IS GROUND! Use a 12 volt light tester to find a suitable ground (small black wire), constant power (yellow wire), and power with ignition on (red wire).

You should be able to find the wires you need to splice into on the grey plug. (For power/ground/constant)

If you do not want to figure it out you can just goto like Walmart or Circut City and buy direct plug in Molex plugs that identify each wire for you. About $10-$15.

This is what I recommend so you don't have to cut the factory wiring.

For a fox body, changing the ignition is easy. I just did it myself for a few dollars. I even have an ignition that is bearly used that you could replace it with if you email me, I'll sell it cheap. Anyway, take off the collar around the steering column. Turn the keyless ign to on. There is a little pin on the left side that must be pushed in. It won't go in unless the key is turned (or screwdriver) on. Then just pull out the ign and unplug the dinger wire. Reverse for install. It took me ten minutes to remove the ign in my 88. I bought a new one a few months ago and now I am parting the car.

As far as the stereo wires, go to walmart or Circuit city and buy a SCHOSCE harness for Ford. Wire the stereo to the corresponding wires, Blue is amp turn on, red is power, yellow is Constant power (fuse this) and black is ground. The rest are speaker wires and maybe a power antenna and dimmer wire will be there but you can ignore them. I have installed a minimum of 25 car stereos with and without amps. PM me if you have more Q's.

Super simple to replace ign. I promise! Then you will have new keys and a new ign.

If you want more info PM me or email me at bruehlc@charter.net.

I have a set of door locks too. If you wanted them changed. Actually I have two sets of door locks and a coupe trunk lock assy.
