electrical lighting problem...

my headlights keep cutting out after driving for about 20 mins with them on. i have to juggle the light switch a bit and then they come back on and then off and then on. its kind of funny 'cause everyone infront of me gets out of my way... but its hella dangerous in the middle of the night. i also get this light burning smell.

is it my switch? or wiring?

i'm planning on changing out my face guages soon so replacing the swich would be ideal at this time.

btw... what do you think of these face guages?

Mustangs have had a problem with the thremal overload of the headlight circuit for a long time. It's the dinky wiring to the lights tripping a safety mechanism. This was really common on the Fox bodies. The cure was to run new hot wires and a relay.

But yes, you could very well just have a bad switch. My friends Cougar with the same switch melted and just needed replaced.

HID's would be nice but i think i'd rather put the money into the engine and suspension right now.

My friend had a '95GT with the same problem. He replaced his switch and cured the problem. My bronco II had a similar problem. The switch fried itself, as well as the relay wires. I replaced the switch, but have not dealt with the other wires yet.

loud 95: thanks... i'll get the switch replaced and hope the wiring holds up.

SmokedYa: if i take the supports out of the rollbar the back seat works well enough. i had 4 people in the car about a month ago without much problem. the supports actually make for a good headrest with a small pillow.

hello no man!! dont' buy those halos from the website!! they're only like $160 for the same thing on ebay... or $200 from a good company! oh, and those should brighten the road a bit... they're projection rather than the stock lighting system... plus, HID will fit easily in there, and really light up the road, just be careful which color headlight backing to get, I'm not sure how black will look on a non-black painted car
