Electrical/Transmission Question

Can anyone tell me what the electrical harness that attaches by the speedometer gear on the transmission is for. It has two wires. Thanks for any replies or suggestions.

If its on the speedo gear, its for the VSS, if its a black plug that goes on the two prongs on the tranny, thats for your reverse lights

It's on the speedometer gear, what does VSS stand for? thanks

vehicle speed sensor? where does it go from the transmission, i just put my transmission back in and i must have broken it off somewhere because its just hanging loose of the speedometer cable. Any suggestions? thanks
