the charcoal canister is held in by one bolt, but the gas tank vents into it, and it is stored for later purging. my car's system was shot so i ripped it all out. just make sure your gas tank vents somewhere safe.

Also can get rid of any crash sensors you might have if you have them. battery relocation to the truck. the condensor for the a/c that sits in front of the radiator. Any bolts or tie straps that are not holding anything down. My smog canister came right off with one bolt and the bracket that holds it to the inner fender well.

this might be obvious, but make sure you remove all the smog and a/c lines. just a few hoses and lines really cleans up nice. buy a shop manual for your car and find out what everything is and if you REALLY need it (ie.emissions stuff) be careful tho at what you remove and i would ask here if in doubt.

I got rid of my A/C, smog pump, Power steering pump, Windsheild washer tank, Move the battery to the trunk. Some sensors that were with the smog system. I still have to clean it up. Have not done anything to it in a long time.

But will be pulling the motor soon so I think I am going to put a fresh coat of paint

Nah it is really not as bad as you think. At first it was because the flamming river unit is so stiff. But once you put a few miles on it, It is real nice.

I know i'm an ass for saying this...but just go carbed

Just FYI in case you don't know, but most of the really nice EFI cars that look so clean under the hood have 75% of the goods hidden under the fenders.

I have everything removed from under the hood. I am only running the alternator and water pump. The trick with this setup is to take off the idler/tension pulley. Grind off the little notch at the back and then put the belt back on. Once it is on, use a prybar to tighten the belt in the OPPOSITE direction it used to go and tighten the bolt down. I have run the car like this for 5 years! I also just took the power steering off and caped off the hydraulic lines to the stock power steering rack. After a few pulled muscles you will be alright. The pic from jkstang78 shows this exact setup. I can stand in my engine bay and work on the motor. I can put long tubes on in 10 minutes!! No lie! I have also taken the dash apart and taken out the heater core and anything else that is not needed (ie radio). The car weighs in at 2750 with iron Windsor Sr. heads! The weight reduction was the first thing I did and the car ran 13.5 @ 100 with just gears, slicks, pulllies, and exhaust. And that was granny shifting the thing!!
