Just had a talk with a DOL official and he told me that the department will be requiring people to show their drivers license to prove residence when purchasing tabs. Cars must be registered at the same address as that residence. This will reenstate the protocols that were begun and then stopped last year. He couldn't remember the exact month when these policies will begin again, but he said it would be early in the next calendar year. You have the option of signing an affidavit saying that you live at an address other than the one your license specifies (He said only King county would check on the validity of the affidavit). He also told me that there was a good chance he'd be losing his job with the likely Rossi victory and that he had no idea what the policy of the new adiministration would be on this issue. This is all motivated by the projected revenue shortfall of 1.7% for construction of the monorail. It's only King County pushing this issue, but that is enough. So those PO box numbers being used to get around emissions will soon become more difficult to use.
