Emmision's questions. (CT guys Pref.)

Alright so after doing my research, i pretty much have my mind set on buying a set of Flowtech ceramic coated longtubes with a matching O/R X pipe. Heres my problem. I live in CT and as anyone here knows emmisions are a B***C. I haven't looked into it but, are longtubes even legal in our state? I know having no cats is which is leads me to my next question. How do all of you pass emmisions with long tubes? I have heard of cutting the stock h-pipe to match up with the longtubes and then just throwing that on when it is time to take her thorugh emmisions again. Oh and im going with flowtech's because i want to be able to drop the tranny if need be. I plan on doing it right the first time and have heard more than enough horror stories about instaling these that i have no intention of taking them off EVER lol. Well all input is welcome and anything else, that anyone wants to mention, feel free. Thanks in advance.

It's easy. Take it to any CT Emissions Certified garage. They will do a visual to make sure your exhaust is complete. (Hint, weld some fake cat shells onto the offroad pipe.) Then they plug into the OBDII port and scan for emissions related error codes. Any codes you fail.

you can get a cheap mid pipe w/cats and put it on when you have to go for emissions. or do what i did bring the car through emission right before you install everything and that will leave you 2 year to worry about it.

i don't know about where you live, but for my car to pass i need to go back to the shop and have them flush my radiator.. so pretty much make a deal with them and keep it...

So what would i need to do to not throw a code? on my 5.0 i just had to run it really hot and i left it running while waitng, same idea for this? .. and another thing .. I know I need O2 sensor extensions with longtubes, but what about mil-eliminators? ? Do i really need them to get the check engine light to go off?
And I took it thorugh 11/07 so i'll have about a year and a half bu the time I start modding

yes you are going to need the mils so that you can turn the check engine light off. unless you have a tuner with the feather to turn them off such as a diablo or sct tuner.

long tubes in connecticut will fail you. they are illegal to have in CT street cars.

mid pipes without cats will fail you

long tubes with hacked in cats on the mini mid pipes will fail you

get shorty headers(which really is no point in my opinion) unless you really hate exhaust manifolds or something, hi flow sports cat mid pipe, and mufflers will pass

Well this is what i was affraid of hearing but glad i asked. What about an actualy catted shorty mid-pipe?

I'm in CT too... I installed my LT's the week before my emissions test thinking I'll just swap back to stock in 2 years, after doing the install, I realized there's no way I'd be doing that every 2 years. I've heard of people passing with a prochamber (looks like cats.) Try and find an old fashion place that isn't anal about it. I would definitely have a backup plan. Good luck man

so what did you end up doing about the longtubes bryan0? Did you install them and what happend with emmisions?
