What I miss?

As to the original question, I'm really hung up on the fact that you live in CA. First recommendation is to move to a better state, but second recomendation is to speak to a cam grinder about your options. He'll likely set you up with an HCI package after freshing up that lower half. If he's good he'll do it without getting you in trouble in CA.

Do something different....build a bulletproof 306 that is capable of running 10,000RPM without splitting in half, build it with 11.5:1 compression ratio, throw a .600+ lift cam in it with at least 250 duration, run Webers instead of all this EFI junk, and build the car to resemble an old Trans Am race car. Put an IRS in the back and camber all 4 corners out, throw some CCW Classics on it...etc etc.

ban hammer came down.

5 Gs is a nice budget. I say refresh the bottom end, add boost and let stand 15 mins before serving.
Sorry mixed up a recipe for fun with one for beef.

bulletproof 10k rpm in the car for 5g's huh? Sitting here thinking about it and budget might be tight if done right.

How would you build a 10k rpm 306 for under 5g's...

Yeah i missed that part...so build a 7k 347 instead

Then i realized you probably can't build that with a Weber setup for that budget either. Turns out i have nothing useful to add to this thread

To the OP, trick flow top end kit plus all supporting mods brand new will end up around 3500, this gives u plenty of $ left over for a SCT custom chip and dyno tune. Keep it simple and enjoy!
