I appear to have a light attached to my hood for the engine compartment. It is a green and yellow wire that runs from the hood to one side of the starter solenoid. Does this make sense to anyone? Was this light even avaliable is 68? Thanks again for all your help.

I've never heard of one on the classics, but it could have been a dealer installed item or by any previous owner over the years.
I have hood lights on my last two trucks and they have battery power to them and the switch is built into the light assembly. It simply senses when the hood moves from the horizontal position and closes the contacts to turn it on.
The wire you say is going to the solenoid is simply picking up battery power there as do a lot of accessories.
there were both factory and dealer installed underhood lights in mustangs in the 69 model year, i'm not sure on the 68 but it's not outside the realm of possibility.
That might help, as it was part of the visibility/convenience light group. I'm not aware of any factory installed underhood lights for 69 bnickel. They were available on Cougars and i have one of those lights (round cylinder with flat bracket welded to it) as well as the dealer add on Rotunda light.
snottystang, what does your underhood look like? This could distinguish if it is factory or dealer installed. If you have all other options mentioned in that light group (above website), then i'd bet it is definitely factory.

it lists the underhood for the visibility group, whuich my car has and there is a hole for the bracket and screw in my hood. my car was mostly all original when i got it and it had the underhood light. i lost it sometime during the 23 years i've owned the car but it was there. my car was an early production 69 so maybe it was dropped later in the year, i don't know. my car had every single piece of the visibility group option. my underhood light was very similar to the trunk light as best i can remember.
Yeah i know that list had it on there. It may have very well been an early year thing. I've looked over numerous thoroughbred originals with the visibility and convenience group cars and none have a factory hood light. Some have the round Rotunda lights added and there is a hole to mount it in the center of the hood. Interesting to see that your car had one.
i guess it's possible that mine was dealer installed to make the original owner happy or something. i doubt she would have had it installed otherwise though, there was not a single other dealer accessory on the car other than a clip on vanity mirror and who knows when she got that, she may have previously had it in another car or bought it later, heck it could have even been bought by her sister, the lady i bought the car from, after she got the car. but i seriously doubt that she (the sister i got it from) had the underhood light installed.
Thanks for the responses. I looked at the glove box and it is locking and has the light. I didn't check the trunk or under the dash yet, but it looks like it is a factory install.
