Hi Everyone, Just bought a 97 Cobra. Love the car but the engine light came on as I drove it home the day i bought it. (Seller is not responding to me) I licensed it and had the emissions tested. Needless to say it failed. I had 2 lean codes and an o2 code. I took the car to a local Ford dealer. They found the MAF sensor bad and a o2 sensor in bank 2 bad. Plus one plug wire was shorting out. Had a burn hole in it That cost me a $1000. Then after they replaced the parts I was informed that the PCM (Computer) was bad. The service rep explianed that the problem with the MAF and or o2 sensor must have been bad for a long time and "burned" the code into the computer and it could not be cleared. Now, I am a computer geek, but know nothing about car computers. Its costing me another $500 to replace... The engine light still comes on after they replaced the MAF and o2 sensor. DO I really need to replace the PCM or am I being taken for a ride.

Many Thanks
Lance

Man, you are getting the shaft from all directions. Instead of paying $1000 you could have cleaned the MAF, replaced the plug wire, and replaced the O2 yourself and spent about $60.

And then after that the service rep fed you a nice steaming pile of

I'd have to agree they're doing the typical --> "I have no F-ing clue whats wrong so lets play process of elimination" <-- WITH YOUR MONEY
They charged HOW FRIGGING MUCH ????
I just bought a BRAND NEW Maf last week
(Ford Racing Lightning 90MM Mass Air Meter M-12579-L54 $79.99)
Whats 1 wire and a o2 sensor cost , another $50.00 maybe.
Bro you need to go back there and raise hell BIG TIME

Is the Cobra all stock ?
was is maybe un-modded ?
either way not a good sign that the former owner isn't responding

Best of Luck

that is a load of BS... they misdiaged your car.. the code " burned into the pcm" line they used is laughable.

One possibility is that you had a ignition related misfire and even after they fixed the bad wire the plug fouled out or was fouled and the idiot never cleaned it.

for me to know for sure what is going on I need to have all the codes exactly what number they are. plus I may need some live data..
