For a long time now I've had an engine knocking noise. It never really bothered me because it was'nt always that loud but now its as loud as it has ever been and its really bad. My car is'nt running bad at all. it's running very good. I was'nt sure what it was but just for the hell of it i went underneath the car and it was louder it sounded likei t was coming from under the car.

I need help.

Please any suggestion or anything.

Get a automotive stephescope (sp) and try to pinpoint it. They are sold at most parts stores. I use them a lot at work and they are so important to finding the exact sources of noises.

put the end of it on different parts of the engine (watch out for moving parts it's loud) Try it on the valve covers maby it a lifter. Try it on the oil pan or where ever you want really. Probly just an exhaust leak from the header or the flange were the header joins to the H pipe.

What would the exhaust leak look like from the header or the flange were the header joins to the H pipe

Recheck all of your header bolts where they meet the cylinder heads.

If it's a cold morning, you can start the car and look for the condensation to come out of areas around the exhaust

Also, your PM's are full... I posted what you were asking in the radio / gauge plate thread.

Ummmm, this loud "knock" coming from under the car...it's not a rod, is it? With the engine running and the car PROPERLY in the air on jackstands and COMPLETELY out of gear, reach up and put your hand on the side of the block ( Careful! Stuff gets hot quick! ) and see if you can tell if it's something internal. I hope not. My daughter's Firebird has this malady right now and it ain't a cheap fix.
