Its a 95 mustang 3.8l automatic. It knocks at idle when hot and gets louder at around 2k rpm. But if I put the brake on and bring it to around 2k there seems to be no knocking. I also dont hear knocking when driving unless its changing gears at a higher rpm. I started it up this morning and it doesnt seem to knock when its cold. I also went through and unplugged each spark plug wire and I got to cylinder 6 and the noise got louder. Im lost. I dont have the time nor money to take the engine apart. Its a Dailey driver with 120k on it. All original from the factory except for, altenator, cooling fan, Serpentine belt, tensioner pulley, a screamin demon distributor, low resistance wire set. X2 platinum spark plugs, head gasket, engine oil and oil filter. Radiator fluid, power steering, brake fluid and air filter. Everything is stock as far as I know.

Pull the plug out on that number 6 cylinder and see what it looks like. X2 sounds like some nifty Chinese stuff.

That era of 3.8 loves to blow head gaskets. It could also be a lifter, loose spark plug, broken spring, faulty rocker, bad injector, leaking exhaust gasket or header. Rod knock typically gets worse at higher RPM's. Removing a wire (if you had actual rod knock) would cause it to get better, not worse. Perhaps if you cared to post a video with sound we could make a better guess.

Head gasket got replaced not that long ago but it did over heat more than it should of(cooling fan died). Got replaced about 6k miles ago. Might sound like a dumbass but im new and dont know how to post a video. Can I do it from mobile or have to do it from a computer. Also it has no lights on the dash. Did before but then went away.

Does the engine run rougher when it's knocking?

I had this weird one on a Ford Escort one time. A lifter had broken, and the roller flat spotted. It would run fine, and then everyonce in awhile it would start knocking and running real rough. Turns out when the roller on the wheel was in the right position in ran fine, but every once inawhile it would roll over onto that flat spot and the valve wouldn't open.
