hey guys im new to the 5.0 section and will soon be buying a 95 gt with a blown engine it. the engine needs new bearings. my options are to buy another 5.0 engine and drop it in or just rebuild the one thats in it. which will be the cheapest rout to go? how much will it cost to fix bearings and how much do they cost? i have somone who will pull the engine out and drop back in

The cheapest isn't always the best option, but it really depends on your budget, too. I was able to pick up an Explorer longblock for ~$500 and sold the GT40P heads for about half that much ($225, if I recall correctly), so I basically picked up a low-mileage shortblock for $250-275ish. Since the shortblock is essentially identical to the Mustang, save for a few minor things (timing cover, oil pump pickup, and cam), it's a very reasonable option if you can find one. Other options are also going with something like a DSS or CHP shortblock for around $1500, with all brand new parts and forged pistons. How much can I help you spend today? :)

If it was me I would look for a used explorer engine. The heads and intake flow better than the stock mustang pieces but the cam is made for more torque. I would just swap the stock mustang gt cam into the explorer 5.0 and use your original oil pan and front cover. You will also have to have a intake elbow adapter for 94-95 mustangs to adapt your stock style TB onto the explorer intake.

This combo will make more power than a stock GT engine rebuild and will probably not cost much more if any.

Well first, define 'blown' is this something that runs, but not very well, or does it have a viewing window on the side of the block where something went thru. Mine had a knock every morning at startup, for just a split second before it got oil pressure then it went away. I'm cant spend a ton of cash on it right now, but I dont want it to get worse so I pulled the engine, replaced the rod bearings only, put the e303 in while i had it out, replaced the basics, water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, cap rotor, I think my redneck rebuild cost about $500.00 including the cam. The explorer motor is a good way to go if you have, or think you may have damage to the shortblock.
