Engine Revs Itself on shift (Help)

I was searching the threads and couldnt find this issue resolved anywhere so I figured I'd post...

My car has similar problems that I've read in other posts (high idle, slow to rev back down on shifts...) but I am also having a problem that is a little more alarming then annoying. When shifting sometimes the rpms not only hang but actually start to rise and the only way to stop it is to pound that gas for a second, then it drops back down to normal...usually this only happens after a hard acceleration...anyone who knows what this could be please let me know.

check where your floor mats are, i had this happen in another one of my cars. if i would step on it the revs would hang & i would have to hit the gas in order for them to go down. i finally looked at the mats & it was kind of pushed up around the back of the gas pedal. so whenever i got on it the back of the pedal would get hung up on the mat. i dunno if this will help you but that was what was the matter with mine

Possibly some gummy cables? have you check the actuation of the cabling itself to see how smoothly it works? Or maybe something in the linkage is hanging up?

I tried playing with it with the hood up (reved the car from under the hood) in the garage and couldnt even replicate the problem...seems to only occur while driving. It takes a long time to rev back down when i do this but it never sticks or revs up byitself unless i'm driving the car???

The mats aren't interfeering either...the gas pedal itself doesnt seem to be stuck either, its up all the way when this happens.

Could it just be a computer problem? maybe a reset would fix?

its a vacuum leak or computer problem, if you have recently done any intake modifications give it a month and it will work itself out, mine does it whenever i mess with the intake

Haven't done anything recently...it just started happening in the last 2 months or so. Any other ideas???

My car does it stock, I heard it's in teh programming, on the registry they say to take your car and bounh it off the rev limiter a couple of times to solve it. I don't think I'm gonna try that any time soon though.

Reset the PCM and see how far that goes.......

IF not, I'd say a tuneup couldn't hurt.

And cleaning the fuel system (just running some stuff through it) and taking the intake tract off and cleaning it up couldn't hurt

Have you had your car tuned? Might also be a problem just a thought

this is true, i spent a couple hours yesterday cleaning the entire intake track, and the car, though it still hangs when you rev it and jumps to @1500 when its below that and you hit the clutch, it seems to rev much smoother,

just get a can of valvoline carb and TB cleaner and spray the TB down inside, outside, at the linkage, etc....then take the entire air path off and clean it inside (and out if you want)
