My gas pedal got stuck under my mat and it revved all the the way up for a couple seconds. Now it run and drives as normal but there is a ticking sound from the engine. It sounds like the passenger side closest to the firewall. I dont know what it is. I tried to tighten the header bolts but they weren't loose. I think its a valve spring or a push rod?

Did you maybe float a valve? Is it blowing smoke? That or a sticking lifter.

It's not blowing smoke, and it runs the same as before it happened

Sounds like a sticking lifter then. Keep an ear out for it, to see if it gets worse.

Yeah, change them out. Some have had luck with a heavy detergent oil like tranny oil. It didn't work for me though. Just living with it until I can change them.

Oil change with a synthetic and some Marvel Mystery Oil or Sea Foam. Run it a while. Thats if its a lifter. I'd be looking at a header gasket though. Just as likely.

Just because the bolts don't tighten doesn't mean you didn't blow the gasket out.

Take a wooden handle - like one from a plunger and one end to your ear the other end along valve cover on that side. See if you can isolate where the noise is coming from. Pour a few ounces of MMO in and see if the tick goes away in a few hundred miles. Sounds like a lifter may have bottomed out or stuck.

Holy crap. I thought I was the only person to use weird methods to locate noises. I use pieces of hose against my ear. The noise gets funneled and amplified along the way up to your ear lol

HA! I bet your tool box looks like mine. I have a whole drawer full of "custom" made tools, gauges, etc. My wife calls me McGiver. lol

To the OP are you saying now the tick is coming from where the header collector bolts to the intermediate pipe? odd...... did the hose from the exhaust pipe to the smog pump hose get loose?
