I have a 67 deluxe coupe 289 with 351 windsor ? heads. I'm getting ready to rebuild it and would like some ideas about what cam to use. When I mash on it and the tranny shifts it will turn the wheels over. I'm not looking for anything too radical, just a step up from what I have now.

heres a tip. take off those 351 heads and have the combustion chambers measured. They should be around 60cc's. they are probably much higher. If they are you are making your compression ratio lower and losing power. You should have them milled down to reduce the size of compression chamber.

If you are rebuilding it you should use pop-up pistons, to bring the compression ratio up. Ford used to sell pistons for exactly this, using 351W heads on 289 engines. If your engine has the OE dish top 2V pistons, your compression is reall in the cellar right now, even flat-tops won't cut it. Cutting the heads to fix this requires a lot of cutting, which causes other problems.

I've always had good luck with a Comp Cams 268H as the biggest criusing cam for a small engine. All I would trust is Comp Cams.I've heard stories about edelbrock not lasting past break in, and I had back luck with a Summit cam. Never a problem with Comp. They're all I use now,it's made in the U.S.,not true with all others.
