New here from Maine

Hi everyone..New member here from Maine. I have 2, 67 Convertibles and a 65 hard top. I've been rebuilding my 65 over the winter. A lot of metal work. I'm in the process now of dropping in a 351 4V Cleveland. I picked up a set of Tubular Automotive headers. Just curious who else has done this and your thoughts on everything and the early 289 3 piece engine mounts. I was told this is the way to go? I have the two piece engine mounts now.

Welcome to :SN:
I moved this to the classic forums, a member will chime in soon.
The dog house on a 65 is kinda small for that Cleveland (semi) big dog.
Thanks! It's tight no doubt lol. I bought a set of Tubular Automotive headers and a set of early three piece engine mounts. Everything fits, but I'll have to do something with the Tubular cross member under the engine. I haven't figured that out yet.

You are not to far from our camp on Frenchman's Bay.
Welcome to Stangnet!

I would think you would be better off with the 1966 and later mounts vice the 1963 Falcon mounts as far as strength goes.
As I understand the early mounts get the engine a little lower for better clearance. I talked to the guys at Tubular Automotive that made the headers for this swap. I still have my two piece 65 mounts, so I'll see what works best. I'm really considering notching the shock towers and welding a plate in. That would be easy and give me a lot more room.

I thought I was crazy when I swapped motors in the Street when I was younger, but your clothes line engine chains are out there.
Be safe my friend .
Thank you! I'm a commercial lobster fisherman. That's 7/16 rope. I can haul 4', 5 trap trawls form 300' of water with a 14" Hydroslave hauler, run from my 550Hp John Deere with no issues. At roughly 500 lbs this Cleveland doesn't stand a chance against the rope I wouldn't do it if I weren't comfortable with it and thought there was a chance of it parting the rope, or couldn't tie knots it's all good.

It definitely is! We're on the other side of Cadillac mountain. About 7 miles out in the bay. You ever been out here?

Been to Acadia several times, into Bar Harbor and up and down Cadillac Mountain of course.. Can't say that I have been out to Swans Island.
I live up past Bangor and only get out to camp 4-6 times a year depending.

Cadillac Mountain just to the right of center with a couple of the Porcupine Islands just to the left of center.

I'd be concerned about the torque a 351 will generate compared to the original 260 those mounts were designed to support.
Keep in mind that Ford did not consider them acceptable for use with the 289 HiPo, which got a different set of mounts.

I looked into it a little. You're right about them not being as strong as the later 65-66 mounts. A lot of guys drill and bolt the engine side of the mounts, that stops the top portion from separating from the rubber. Then run a chain or strap for torque. The reason for this particular mount it lowers the engine 1" over the other mounts.

I would use whatever mounts fit the Cleveland and modify the car pedestals (some new pedestals you can destroy)
Same with the under car crossmember pipe, I'd get another one and cut and weld it up to fit the Cleveland
I had a 400 in my 69 for a few days playing around, absolutely no exhaust would fit

Finally made it up to your neck of the woods and to Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain last Oct
Drove up from Boston sightseeing (flew to Boston)
Got a lobster roll from Reds on the way up
Next time your up this way you'll have to make it out to the Island if you have time. I'll show ya around. Maybe go out and haul a few traps. You can see how the lobster gets to the plate lol.

Both sets of mounts fit the Cleveland, but the early one's set it lower in the engine bay and is better for clearance. I'm going to have to play around with them both and see what works best. I might have to cut some of the pipes and weld them to fit.
