Hi, I am having engine problems with my '96 GT. Every time I start it up it starts but it wont maintain sufficient RPMs to keep the car going so it dies. it starts up every time but it refuses to idle. I can, however, keep it going by keeping my foot on the gas but as soon as I release it dies. If you have any idea please repost. Thanks!!

Sounds like a bad idle air control valve or throttle position sensor, dont hold me to it though. Someone else will chime in, but thats my guess.

If that is the case get a Motorcraft replacement IAC valve.

I wouldnt worry about using something else though, seeing as how the Motorcrafts are the ones always giving out...
