OK, Happy as h@ll as I took delivery on my new GT a little over a week ago. Dealer was great to deal with (O'meara) but they want to try and sell me extended warrenty. Lots of plans/options, I'm not wild parting with another grand or more right now, they gave me till month's end, I am reluctant to extend as they are being slightly pushy...not a good sign to me.

Package adds 2 years (5 year total warrenty) for total 5 year 60,000 miles (Up from base 3 yr 36,000 mile warrenty car came with) for an additional $1800.

My stang is the 3rd car in the household and will see 5000-8000 miles a year, well below the 12,000 mile annual limit on the current warrenty. I am strongly considering performance upgrades down the road (Lowering springs, underdrive pullys, headers, diablo chip etc) and am wondering too if these void warrenty.

I love the car, far exceeds my expectations which were high, and I am going to leave it alone and enjoy it for a couple yars before doing anything to it, but I know someday I will want to make some enhancements, but if they void warrenty then I suppose it becoems a delema. ANyone want to share their thoughts, experience or preferences ?

First of all, warranties are completely negotiable. My dealer started with the insane type figure you addressed. I told them I have bought ext. warranties before at employee discount rates and they were way high. I offered $700 for the 6/72 plan and they took it.

It is a new car and personally I think the warranty is a good idea (look at how many TSB's so far) - and we don't know how the motor is going to hold together in another 60,000 miles. I plan on modding heavy right after the warranty expires.

I got the extended warranty for $900 Canadian on X-plan pricing: 6 years/80,000kms (no chance I drive that much in the next 6 years).

I kind of regret it now because I don't want to wait six years to make mods to the car. In hindsight, I should've stuck with the 3 year factory warranty. If there's no serious issues with the car in 3 years, I'll anyway probably just say screw it and make mods.

I drive a piece of crap 1996 VW Jetta during the winter months (October to April). I don't drive my stang much during the week as I live in downtown Toronto and walk to work. I figure I'll put about 10,000-12,000km/year on the stang.
