Estimate on cost of changing to 5 speed

nugget, I didn't have to cut the floor pan to clear the shifter so that was nice and the clutch fork comes out lower on the bell housing so it doesn't aim right into the headers, also a plus... The biggest problem I ran into so far (since i only just finished the hyd. setup yesterday) was having to swap to an earlier tailshaft housing so I could run the mechanical speedo. Teh hole on the 96 and newer V6 T5's is closer to the main body and goes to a reluctor for an elec. speedo. I swapped the housing for a 93 unit and had to modify the inside of the housing to fit the oiling ring that was added to the overdrive gearset. Everything else wnet just like a standard T5 swap.

tweet66, could you elaborate a bit on the oiling mod you made to the later T-5? It doesnt't sound like that much work for a better fit. Thanks!

I'll have to take some pics to explain it better but here goes... if you have the tailshaft off and look inside, you'll see the cast boss that holds the overdrive gear shaft. On 94 and newer T5s this boss has an additional area milled out to fit the "oil slinger" (technical term?? or s.w.a.g.) that was added to ensure additional oiling to the gearset. Older model T5s dont have this milled area. I took my die grinder and an aluminum carbide bit and recreated that area. I measured ever other boss, casting, hole, notch, etc.. with my calipers but this was the only difference between the housings. Once that cut was made it dropped right on. I actuall have a complete second T5 setup from another 96 V6 that I'm getting ready to do the same mods to. I'll take some pics of it.

It's easy enough to do. It took me 2 days to figure out why the housing wouldn't sit flush though. Felt like an idiot when I figured it out
