Ever Heard Of: Metal Bonding Adhesive

Hi Guys (Newbie here)

I bought and haven't use my MillerMatic 135 YET. I came across a site:
LORD Fusor Metal Bonding Adhesive ( don't think this is the correct site)

However, the product contains two tubes one; 7.6oz and the other; 1.7oz.
one delivers the product with a two tube applicator onto the bonding site.
such as: patch panels/door skins, etc.etc.

The site says of course you have to prep. the two metals by cleaning 'em and beveling 'em but not using and belveling tool.

The product is approved by: Ford/GM.


QUESTIONS PLEASE:

1. Have any you guys out there ever used this product before?

2. If so, how good is it ?

And here I am with a brand new MillerMatic135

I'm pretty sure this stuff doesn't beat Mig Welding right guys
But I'd like to hear what you guys got to say about this product please.

these adhesives are actually pretty good... are you familiar with the late 90's buick riviera, and olds aurora? they featured an aluminum roof that was bonded to a steel frame with this type of product. the only drawback, IMHO, is the curing time... you can weld a bunch of patches in the time it takes this stuff to set up. BUT.... you dont have to worry so much about interpanel corrosion.

it helps distribute load a little better than a weld, and is usually easier to use for the novice who doesn't need to go through the process of buying and learning to use a welder.

My opinion: if you know how to weld and have the toold, DO IT

I don't think you'll ever regret buying the MillerMatic 135 even if you don't use it on this project. You'll probably finds lots of uses for it around the house.

I've heard that metal adhesive is good but I haven't used any. Log onto www.hotrodders.com and click on the bullitin board and and go to the body forum. There was some testing and discussion on this topic not too long ago.

I have used Fusor with good results but it will never replace my Miller. It has its place and uses and so does my welder.

GM uses some bonding adhesives for the door hinges. You can get "work times" anywhere from 2- 4 hrs.

Generall used for "non structural" repairs.

Thanks 4 the headsup

On those adhesives, I'll stick with my mig. But 4 me I got some practicing 2 do.

Speaking of mig welding what do you think of a mig wire that was highly recomm. for welding my floor pans with: ER70S-6

Its said to have more DEOXIDIZERS in it, whatever that means
Have you ever heard of it or used it

Next time you see a Thomas C2 school bus on the road the body is glued together on it. They claim the joint is stronger than a single piece of steel. Don't believe it myself.

my neighbor is a professional collision body/paint man and he says that more and more the factory is gluing/bonding parts together, like the roof and some quarter panels. He said its bond is as strong as a weld and it can also be used as a filler for small holes where bondo type products would be prone to cracking.

I work at a plant where we build the F-150, every place I've seen where adhesive is used it is also welded. It seems that the adhesive is used mostly where flex in the structure may cause squeaks. I also remember seeing on 3M's website that the adhesive should not be used for structural repairs. Other than that, I've heard it works well.

Hey Iamdiffrnt

I'll go with your experience. We're dealing with cars, cars that are made out of steel/sheet metal etc,etc. At least mine is: '66 Ford Mustang.

I don't know how it would work on Plastics; but then again that's another story.

I'll stick with my mig welder (MillerMatic135)
