ive been thinking of buying some exhaust cutouts for my 01 gt. just wanted to get a general opinion of them, i want a system thats quite in my neighborhood but loud when i want it to be and these sound perfect. does anyone have a good company to buy from or any to stay away from, are there typical problems to watch for, and would i gain a little horsepower or lose some?

yeah i saw those on american muscle but i heard complaints that they dont fully seal when closed, i want to know if this is typical of them or if it just some. ive heard decent things about race ready performance ones but it mostly came from them so....

5 year warranty on the Pypes electric cutouts. If you follow the care instructions, they will seal fine indefinitely. They are the same design as the Race Ready only about 30% less. Made in Hatfield PA.

On a stock GT, you probably won't gain much HP. Maybe 5-6? They are mostly for the fun factor.

Yeah, on an NA 4.6, you won't gain much by opening the cutouts. As others said, it will be PAINFULLY loud when you do open them up, and certainly much worse for anyone inside the car!

I have a 3" cutout on my 88, but it isn't electric. Just a simple flange with wing nuts. Works great at the track! In fact, because the rest of my exhaust system is undersized (only 2.5" after the cutout), I gain 2mph in the quarter when I open it. I'll sometimes drive around with the cutout open on the street. It is tolerable for short times because the turbo really quiets things down, but an NA or blown engine will be painfully loud.
