EXHAUST POPPING?

I've noticed that after 5,500 rpm I get a popping sound out the exhaust is this detonation from runnin 87 octane, leaning out or am I floating the valves other than that car runs great.

no dude that's where the stock ignition redlines at lol.

I had a 90 lx with way less mods than this that would pull 6,500 rpm's no problem. Gonna pull the cap and see if it and the rotor is worn think it might be jumpin spark kinda what it sounds like.

No, its good beyond 6,000+ rpm..

i've always heard it's just the excess fuel igniting in the tail pipes. like mini backfires because the cats are gone

i've heard the same, i noticed it once i put my O/R pipe on. I wish it didn't pop but o well. I notice it the most when i go to shift. Not powershifting but just regular shifting and when the rpms drop between shifts it pops.

It only does it when I'm on the gas. I wouldn't think it's excess fuel because I'm only running 19# injectors with my set up and I don't think I'm gettin more gas than I need at 5,500 rpm's. I'm thinkin it might be in the ignition somewhere. Could be wrong though. It cuts power when it does it too.

I guess stock tach could be off too.

Its highly likely that the stock tach is off. Your probably just hitting the rev limiter.

get a short belt and bypass your air pump if you don't have cats.
