Do a search in the 4.6l forum. It's a widely discussed topic.

My .02

I recommend Magnaflow catback or if you want it louder the Magnaflow "Magnapack". Magnaflow is the way to go for performance AND sound.

asking which sounds the best is like asking what color mustang is the best. everyone will have a different opinion (even tho we all know Silver is the best). only you can decide what sounds the best for you.

Yep, sound is very subjective. You need to go to a Mustang shop on a Saturday when the place is teeming with Stangs and listen to the cars that roll in...decide what you like and ask the owner. Or go to mustangexhaust.com and listen to a few clips there.

My Steeda is going on this weekend. With the MRT H I think it'll sound bitchen. But that's just my opinion

mustangexhaust.com. sound is very subjective. personal taste is very big here.

listen and choose.

my preference is strait through muffler and stainless exhaust. with an off road x-pipe. too me this setup will make the best power.

catback

borla
bassani
magnaflow

midpipe
vrs
magnaflow
MRT(if you want an h-pipe)

If you keep you cats go with the louder cat back

basani race
borla stinger
magnapack

if you go off road pipe
normal basani
magnflow
borla regular

if you couple an off road midpipe with a loud catback be prepared for very loud drone and an exhaust that could potentially be anoying unless you just think louder is better.

Can you tell a difference between a mustang GT with flows (2 chamber) 1 with and off road H, and the other off road X ?

my friend has an off road X w/flwos, I'm thinking of getting an off road H w/flows, but I want a distinctive sound - leaning towards that classic sound that my '66 mustang has... any thoughts?

yes, there is a distinct difference between o/r hpipe and flows vs. o/rxpipe and flows.

the o/r h pipe and flows will sound deeper and almost seem to have a more metallic sound to it. the o/r hpipe and flows will give you the sound you are looking for if you want that classic sound. (2 chamber flows )

Awsome! Thanks for the reply, I cannot wait to get them... I should have a general idea of how that sounds, cause my '66 has 2 chamber flows with an H-pipe, but it has L/T headers... I'm hoping it does me proudly on the '99 GT. can't wait to see the look on my friend's faces when i get an offroad H + 2 chamber flows.

btw... few people here at work wanna know what is on your avatars head? Is it a tennis ball? ...just curios

its amazing how technical you all get concerning different brands of exhaust and h or x pipe.

Although there must be other things which affect the sound too, such as intake and cams.

But if you want real old school (well old school American at least) maybe look at a different car, as all the old ones where push rod V8's not OHC's.

Any straight thru silencer and suitable pipes should sound good regarless of brand.
