Down to the final steps before paint and the exhaust is next. I have not decided on a brand yet but Pypes , Maganflow or Flowmaster seem to be the choices. The car is a 69 Sport Roof with a 351 Cleveland and FPA headers, 2 1/2 pipes. I am interested in a muted sound when cruising and a throaty sound under acceleration. I am also interested in H or X pipe. But don't know the best choice. I understand that any of the choices above will require fabrication from the collectors back to the pipe kit. But the rest of the installation, including the X or H pipe has to be a good fit. Any thoughts, opinions, or advice will be appreciated. ,

I have a set of Pypes cat back with the street mufflers and an X pipe. The sound is nice, not too loud at idle and throaty when I lay on the gas. However, I couldn't do the install myself due to the pipes not lining up with the long tube headers (hedman). I took it to a muffler shop that does a lot of racing work. After he finished the job he told me that it was one of the most difficult to work with kits he has ever encountered. If you are planning on doing the work yourself, maybe take that into consideration. Otherwise, I am pretty satisfied.

What am I using? For what, exhaust?
My 68 has 2 1/2 pipe, with magnaflow, my 69 currently has 2 inch pipe with purple hornies, my 67 has 2 1/2 pipe with plain old fashioned glass packs. When I rebuild the motor in my 69, it will be getting magna flow as well...I'll leave the 67 alone, I like the way it sounds.

I have a Pypes X pipe with cutouts on my 68, and I love it. Lol, I haven't put the mufflers on yet, it sounds good like it is with just straight X. I've been driving it like this for a few months now.

FWIW, I have the 2.5" mandrel kit from summit with the IMCO turbo mufflers, The kit only cost 200 bucks, but it cost me 200 to have it installed because nothing lined up like it was supposed to, but still 400 for a fully mandrel bent 2.5" turbo kit isn't too bad. It sounds ok, not too loud, fairly quiet at idle, just a little growl to it when you accelerate. I had flowmasters on my camaro and it was just too loud, sounded great outside the car, but couldnt hear yourself think inside the car.

Same here with 40 series Flowmasters. Cruising around 65-70 mph was torture. Couldnt carry on a conversation. Im going with the magnaflows 1st, if the drone inside is still to loud I will go withe Dynomax turbos.
