I have a 89 fox that just bought and I am wanting to give it a good sound. I have put bbk shorty headers, an off rod x pipe and Flowmaster 40s but it still sounds pretty much stock at idle. I am not wanting anything crazy loud just want that iconic 5.0 sound.

I bet the flowmaster 40’s make noise when you get on it. They do dont they?
At idle, a stock engine with stock cam is gonna sound like, well.... a stock engine.

My 94 currently has the stock shorty headers, BBK X-Pipe and Flowmaster 2.5 Thunder catback. It's quite at idle which I like but it does roar when on it.
I've had 7 exhaust system on my previous 94 and the best one was MAC Long Tubes, MAC Prochamber and MAC catback. I've had this setup alone in two sizes, one for a 302 supercharge application then 347 stroker.
If you want an aggressive idle then get a cam. Chopity chop chop.

Flowmaster 40s + anything = loud. Even with stock HCI, catted x pipe, bbk shorties, and 40s my previous LX was fairly loud at idle. If you want something more obnoxious, a race bullet muffler is what you want.
