I'm currently in a complete rear end re build. I was debating getting a svo rear end girdle or maybe even a trickflow or something.

But what does a aftermarket rear end girdle do? And will it protect my new posi?

Thanks
Josh

they don't do much. they're suppose to stop/limit the torqueing of the carrier when under acceleration but the performance techs i know and trust say they're not worth the money for most people.

8.8" rearend

A rearend girdle will make your mother-in-law's butt look smaller.

The girdle helps keep pressure on the carrier main caps to prevent deflection and breakage.
They preload the carrier caps to help them retain their form.

If installing it with all the new rear end stuff it cant hurt. You may want to also look into carrier cap studs instead of the stock bolts.
