I finally put a battery in my 1966 289 Auto coupe and I have a few questions:

1. Are the parking lights supposed to turn off when the headlights are switched on? Mine do.

2. Are the instrument cluster lights supposed to light up when I press the brake pedal with the headlights off? The brake lights are lighting up like they should with the headlights off, but not when they are on. Although they don't seem bright like a brake light should be. With the headlights on, I have no brake lights.

3. What tells the back-up lights to turn on in a 66 automatic? Is there a back-up light switch? If so, where is it? In the wiring manual that I have, it shows a back-up light switch for 3 speed and 4 speed manual transmissions near the shifter, but nothing for an automatic transmission.

4. What is the number of the back up light bulb used in a 66 Mustang?

Thanks You in advance!
Carl

1. yes, at least mine do too

2. I don't think so...your instrument lights and brake lights should not be connected. There may be something wired wrong there.

3. ???

4. I will check for you later today, it should list the part number in a manual or repair guide if you have one.

1. Yes, no parking lights with headlights on.

2. You have a wiring issue.

3. Reverse light switch is part of the neutral safety switch found on the driver's side of the transmission (under the shifter arm.) The wire routes up to the engine compartment, through a 2 prong plug (accompanied by a 2 prong plug for the neutal safety switch.) The plugs are probably colored red and blue, IIRC. The wiring harness with these 2 plugs goes into the firewall together near the driver's side (just off the car center.)

4. ??????

The part number for the back up bulb is #21C 1142 Take this to a local Schucks/Kragen/PepBoys/NAPA or whatever and it should be around $4 or $5 for a pack of two bulbs.
