If you came out of those storms today with just that hail damage, you were lucky! I've been watching the WX Channel and the news and it was NASTY down there!

Yeah I know. I'm in Lewisville, so most of it passed a little south of where I'm at. Definitely give my condolences to the people that lost their homes, can't imagine that feeling.
But since its a stang forum, figured I'd share my frustration. The worst part is that I was going to drive it to work this morning (50 miles north where all we got was rain) but the effing battery was dead so I took my daily driver instead. Had I known this crap was going to happen I would have spent the time charging the battery and been late to work for it.
Damnit!

Dang man, that sucks.
My car got hailed on pretty badly last Saturday night. Out of nowhere, this one little bitty storm came through. We had 1"+ sized hail for about 30 seconds, and then .5" sized for about 3 minutes. Wound up with several inches of hail on the ground.
I haven't cleaned my car since then, and it's filth could be hiding something, but so far, it looks like it came out alright. Although I was slightly hoping there would be a little damage, as I want to get the hood and spoiler painted anyway.

Damn. Yeah, hail sucks. Doubt I'll get any new body panels, it was really the only roof that was dented and then the obvious front windshield and cowl.
The other thing that sucks is that I was going to take some pictures this week to put the car up on craigslist because I'm planning on saving up to get back into classic mustangs (67/68 coupe or 69 fastback if I can find one in the next year). So this little incident sets me back a bit. Shouldn't be out too much money with insurance though. Insurance guy is coming Friday to inspect the damage.

That sucks man, I hope the insurance guys can help you out. It hailed at the college today for a good amount of time, I was freaking out about my car but I was lucky and I didn't find any damage to the car yet...

Haha I was waiting for someone to bring that up. Yes you are correct. I sort of had a realization that if I'm going to continue dumping money into a car, I might as well be dumping it into the one that I really want. Don't get me wrong, I love this car to death, but I spend like 5 out of 7 days looking and dreaming about owning a classic mustang again. My first car was a '66, and I regret ever selling it, even though it was just a I6, it was a great car.
By the way, I finally just got a good look at my car without water all over it and in the bright daylight...hail damage on both fenders, quarter panels, and some on the sail panels as well as what I posted above. We'll see what happens when the insurance guy takes a look over it. Guess if it requires a new paintjob I might have to end up keeping it!

Ya I can understand wanting to get a classic... My family has a 68 Mustang hardtop sitting in our barn collecting dust that I would like to restore but I dont have enough $ lol... Maybe after college.
Oh and if you can get it repainted then I would keep it!
So my insurance agent came out today. His initial estimate is about $2500 for repairs. So the question is...
Do I get my windshield fixed and use the money towards something besides body work?
Or do I get it repaired back to original condition?
If I get the full repair job done, it will get taken care of even if it ends up costing more than the initial quote - aka I'm out only $100 if the shop quotes more than $2500. He said it looks like the repairs can all be done using PDR.
The only reason I even think about bringing up this question is that at some point or another I'd really like to get the whole car repainted anyway (ignoring the idea of getting a classic
) . So would it be worth it to spend a few hundred on fixing the windshield and cowl and drive around a banged up car for a while and use the money towards say...all new suspension or even a supercharger
. Then get the repair work done down the road when I get the car repainted.

Well, 2500 would be enough to do a used setup but not a new supercharger. To me I would rather have a good looking car vs the dents. For sure I would replace the windshield and cowl piece and do not get the 2 piece, do it right the first time. If they can be fixed with pdr what does it matter if they pull them now or later? Still gonna put the same amount into it then or now so makes sense to do it now.

Damn dude, that sucks. I'm glad I have a carport so I don't have to worry about things like that as long as I'm home. Glad it's getting taken care of by your insurance.
Insurance adjuster quoted me about $3200 for repairs. I'm taking it into the body shop next Thursday so we'll see what their quote is. Could hope for a little left over money, but I'm assuming that won't be the case. I am going to see if they can knock out 1 or 2 dents that are on the driver side door that have been there since before I owned the car. Figure if they're behind the door panel hammering away anyway, maybe they can pop that one out as well for not much more.
And yeah, I'm going to go check to see how much a car port costs per month. But my rent is already pretty absurd unfortunately.

I would have the windsheild repaired to keep it legal, pocket the extra and keep driving. Then, you have very cheap and fun transportation that still looks reasonably good. You can pocket the money and do something fun (but don't invest it in a hail damaged car lol).
I disagree. Get it all fixed. There's nothing more ghetto than getting an insurance claim and spending the money on beer instead of fixing the car.
In my experience, body shops often do extra minor work as long as the bill is being covered by an insurance company. Not saying they'll repaint a door, but they'll fix any damage that exists on panels they are fixing anyway. 'Course, that's the body shop I went to for an estimate in the first place, so YMMV
But don't ghetto it by just fixing the windshield and letting the rest rot dented and broken. You'll sell your POS for $1500 in a few years and be lucky to get that if you do.
And what is with renting in Austin that would be condos in every other city in America? Buy a place, man. Even if you have to haul water and use an outhouse in the back yard. Paying rent in Austin TX is just collective dumbness. Everyone I've ever met from there rents regardless of income. I don't get it - none of these people are struggling, but they'll pay $2-3K+ a month in rent for reasons I cannot fathom. Nice places, don't get me wrong, but no covered parking and no equity. Any other city in America and you'd only do that if you were planning on moving in a year.

Haha, I need to change my location. I don't live in Austin anymore, nor would I ever have the money to or want to live in a condo there (I used to work at the front desk of a condominium complex there) . I'm in Lewisville now, started an engineering job up in Gainesville, TX in September. I plan on buying a house next year sometime. But for now I'm stuck with my apartment lease until this upcoming September.

Ya I was about to say that rent is insane up in Austin if you were living up there, glad to hear you moved out of there..
