Figured out 99% of my interior rattles

My car has been rattling so bad that I almost freaked out this week and wanted to either trade it in or put it at the bottom of a lake. Luckily the long weekend came and i got to do some work on it. I put in a rear seat delete kit, Corbeau TRS leather seats and had to re torque down the MGW shifter because it was rattling.

Well, while I was re torquing the shifter and had all the trim off, I decided to take off the console trim around the radio/heater controls. I figured since I have all that trim off I'll take it for a test spin to see if any rattles are gone. Guess what happened, There are NO rattles at all anywhere in my car with the shifter trim and center console trim off. I also had a rattle in the rear which is gone since I put in the rear seat delete kit. I am so freaking happy and love my car again.

BUT, I cant really drive around without the shifter and console trim too long, its really fugly! Anybody have any clue on what I should do to get all that plastic crap to stop rattling. I cant think of anything to do, but there has to be something. The bad part is I dont know what on all that crap is doing the rattling. It just must not fit together very well, or plastic against plastic, but I cant just put it all back on and deal with it, it drives me nutty.

Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks guys.

if your careful you can take a can of the rubber undercoating spray and put it on the backside of all the trim. this might provide a little bit of a cusion for it so it doesn't rattle.

we have this felt stuff that sticks on too the plastic trim at work.. i am sure you can find somthing like it somewhere. it's cut too fit and does a good job at killing rattles and squeeks.

You can also use stuff you get at the home store for insulating windows and doors. It is a thin foam tape with adhesive on it.

New fasteners might tighten things up...whether they're the plastic push pins, metal snaps, whatever. Just turn up the radio.

This is exactly what my buddy the Ford Tech did for the creaking noise coming from my driver's side door panel. Works great and unlike the foam, it won't be as likely to deteriorate in time.

Thanks for all the tips. I like the adhesive felt idea, esp if it worked for some of you guys. Now the only question is where in the world do I even begin to look for adhesive felt? Auto parts stores?

that thing works miracles we use it a lot on mercedes benz cars since they want the super quiet car

I called a couple of auto parts stores and they dont have it. Since so many have heard of this felt, somebody please tell me where I can get it.

Maybe some of the tabs are broken causing it to not fit flush and rattle, buy a new A/C and Shifter bezel. I swapped from the dark charcoal pieces to the silver IUP pieces. Got them off ebay, around $60 a piece, brand new off an 04' GT.

Forget the felt, just use the very thin foam tape. Thin foam is what 99% of car manufacturers use to prevent sqeaks...and you can find it at any hardware store.

The part around my shifter is what is loose and rattles for me

I haven't even looked to see how to take it off

Super easy, are cars are like legos. Just unscrew the shift knob and lift up on the two ends towards the console and that sucker will pop right off.

The car is currently down waiting for a new alternator so tomorrow i'll check into that damn squeak.

I use Dynamat in mine. Can get that stuff almost anywhere. If you or you know someone that works at Best Buy you can get it really cheap.

i like the dynamat idea. i think i'll go with that. self adhesive and i can find that stuff anywhere. thanks for the ideas.
