Hey all I just got a new pistons and I was told that I would need to file the rings to make them fit. Anyone know exactly how to do this? How much to file? Any help would be great.

yikes, i would never file rings, get the rings made for your bore and pistons, or you will have some problems sooner than later.

What size is the bore? Is this a NA or power adder motor?

Filing Rings really isn't that bad but you have to do them correctly, or you can cause major issues. A local machine shop should be able to file them for you.

It is a 40 over motor. Had the block done. And this is the rings that the machine shop gave me. They said I might need to file them. It is going to be used with nitrous.

So If I put them in the way I got them they should be fine?

You need to take the ring and put it about 1" down in the bore, use a piston to make sure it goes in square (you can use the ring land to visually make sure it is square) using some feeler gauges, take a reading of what the gap is. Then refer to your directions that should have came with your rings as to waht gap they reccomend.

How much N2O will it see? What is the combo? I may have some good info for you

It is going to be seeing around 175 to start and see how it does. I know this combo is mismatched but it will have to work for now. lol 40 over block, Holley SystemaxII intake, 70mm TB, #24 inj, Adj regulator, 255 puel pump, Ported stock heads, 1.7 RR, B303 cam. Planning on getting a good set of heads in the next few months.

What do the directions say for a power adder? What type/brand are the pistons and rings? Are you assembling the motor? Have you done this type of work in the past?

Yes I am assembling the motor. Actually gonna start on it tomorrow. Yea I have done it before but have never had to file and rings. They have always came the right size.
The ring set is Speed Pro R-9343 45
They say to put ring gap to .28 -.030 for nitrous. It doesn't appear to be that hard.
