It's an 89 black gt 5 speed. With 74k miles on it. A little easily repairable interior roof damage "With new fabric included" And the metal vent in front of the windshield is gone and smashed in. But that will be fixed when i pick it up on saturday. But it's got a really sweet front bumper and cowl/ram air hood with the chrome pony front from the 93 cobra. It's straight as an arrow and pulls strong. And it came with underdrive pulley's but there not installed. He was asking 4500 and i got it for 3800.

Now for the question. The A/C doesnt work so i want to take it out. So if i take it out and get the underdrive pulleys what size belt do i need. And do i need to get an idler pulley or can i just get a shorter belt?

Pictures to come saturday!

you sure it's only got 74K miles on it? Friend of mine got duped a couple of years ago when he bought a 93 notchback. Guy told him it only had 80K (somewhere near 80K) on it. It turned out to be 180K after the appropriate carfax check. Luckly for him it was a dealer and he got most of his cash back, and still got to keep the car (love those Florida Auto laws :) ). Always run a carfax!

Metal vent in front of windshiled gone? smashed in? Sounds like the hood flew up on the previous owner... or are you just talking about the black plastic cowl, because thats easily replaced... the metal however is a big body job?

Other than that, sounds like a good deal.

Yes hood flew up on him and ****ed that **** all up.

Were gonna take a hammer and smash all that **** down and out of the way. And then get some alluminum and cut out a sheet the same size, put a hole for the windshield wiper and paint it black. Then were gonna use rivets and put the thing on. Im not putting a new vent in eihter. I think it will look cool without it.

Can you say "Jerry Rig".

Perhaps you're not ready for this car yet???

It sounds like a clean car, and already your willing to remove all of the a/c stuff because you don't have a couple of bucks to troubleshoot it, and you are willing to take a hammer to the car and mickey mouse a body part.

Perhaps you should take a step back and think about your actions before you buy this car. You sound very young, nothing against that, its just that you are about to take steps that you are going to be upset about in the future when you are older, if you still have this vehicle.

I'm ready to remove the a/c because im aiming for high 1/4 mile times. Even if the A/c worked i would remove it. So what would you recomend i do where the hood smashed it in? I don't have thousands for an auto body shop.

Having a/c done't make your car faster, it justs removes a few pounds, which in itself won't make you any faster either...I love my a/c and I'd never think of getting rid of it...I can't stand the summer heat, esp in my dark colored interior.

v8only makes a good point, if your going to do something do it right or not at all....because you will regret it later on.

The only benefit you are going to get from removing the a/c is a few pounds lighter, and maybe a horsepower or two. I doubt it would ever equal to a tenth in the quarter mile. Regardless, that's your choice, and lots of people do it. If this is not your transporation car, it's no big deal, it's just that once you remove all of the a/c stuff, you'll likely never be able to go back (too much work) Don't forget to remove all the a/c stuff under the dash too, the dash will have to drop for that.

My brother has a messed up cowl too, as well as my buddy. this is Extremely common. Both my brother and my friend are waiting for the cash to fix this. It's not going to cost you a few thousand to fix. It'll likely only cost a few hundred without paint, max.

I would never suggest repairing body panels like this on your own, unless you, or your buddy are skilled body people. Body work tends to be an art. In the end, what you do to it, stands a good chance of looking very mickey moused, + you will have cut, welded your car, which can't be reversed.

If it were me, I'd save up to do it the right way. Removing the plastic cowl is an intersting idea, and may look good. On the other hand, if it's not done right, it's going to look like ass on an othewise nice car. Just my .02 and just trying to help a fellow mustanger out, as I have jumped into many projects and taken apart many things with high ambitions in my younger years (i'm not as old as I sound, 30 ) some stuff never got put back together.

Good luck with your mustang, nothing like your first 5.0 Please drive safely.

Thanks man. We are gonna use rivets to put it on not weld. I figure if it doesnt work i drill out the rivets and save up for a body shop. Personally i think if we get it lined up correctly it will look cool and industrial. Especially with rivets and without the plastic vent. Im gonna at least go for it. Because i can't stand to see that the way it is.

I think but I'm not sure that your HVAC system gets air from within the cowl grille.

Also if the hood flew open and did this, then not only did it push down on the cowl, but it also pulls it out by the hinges so the hood shouldn't close, unless it's fully pin on.

Save your money, there are plenty of other cars out there, I wish I kept looking after I got my car now...keep looking, leave this one to someone who is willing to fix it right...those who wait get rewarded.

I thought the cowl was just a bolt in piece? I never checked though. I do agree that AC is priceless - even if its just a summer car. If you cant do something right dont do it at all. Pay someone that can instead of cobb jobbing up a car!

yall sound like a bunch of old hags telling the kid hes not ready for the car and all, i mean hes a kid and hes just got that craving for that loud v-8 muscle sound. I was teh same way and still am, when i was 15 i wanted a 5.0 sooo bad and now im 19 and i just now got one and everytime i hear the thing start up i get a boner. Let the kid do what he wants hes having fun, youth is bliss...
