Wow, I really made myself happy today, and really impressed the guys at JBA. A conservative tune got me 570 rwftlbs at 4350, and 516 rwhp at 4971. Thats with 12.8-13.0 A/F ratio, 8* initial and 28* total, and 9.5 lbs of boost at 4971 rpms. The power curves are amazing and their is no peaking so its really smooth and streetable. At 2600 rpms I was already at 400 ftlbs. We calculated the horsepower would be about 625 horses at the fly; the max for a 302 roller block. This was with out-of-the-box X-303 cam and TF track heat heads. A custom cam and AFR 185's would have netted me 700 flywheel horse power but thats too much. I love that the power is before 5000k!! No high revving needed here. What do you guys think?

i am building the same set-up right now but i have a ed curtis custom cam on the way and am saveing for 185cc heads with a valve/seal up-grade. but my blower is only at 5psi but i will prob keep it at that untill i get use to the power and do some suspension up-grades.where was this place located? i am looking for a top of the line dyno to do some tuneing when i am done i am in the va area.
 
Well, its a 342, which probably explains the crazy torque. Yeah, the heads are out of the box TF track heats. I'm planning on going on the 28th. I hope to make Qualcomm this friday for a shake down. The car is totally streetable with the power coming on almost instantly. You have to remember all the power comes in before 5000k so you dont have to rev it to feel it. I feel like I'm driving an E-cammed stocker, its that nice. All my info is on Cardomain. But to give you a rundown; its all out of the box stuff with no porting. I could have gone custom cam, AFR 185's, vic jr intake, and 800 carb but my rpm range would shoot up and the power would far exceed the block. I wanted to do a 408 next or build my 460, but after seeing this, I'm curious to see the potential of the 347. I figure with a forged crank and A4 block, I could easily make 800 flywheel horsepower with the afrs and custom cam mentioned above. Right now its TF track heats, X303 cam, edelbrock RPM intake, 700 Holley DP, 1.6 roller rockers, MAC chrome shorties, X-pipe, MAC dumps, 342 stroker, MSD ignition, Procharger D-1(9.5 lbs at 5000k) with intercooler. The compression is around 9to1 with 61cc chambers. Standard 170cc intake runners. If anybody wants more specs just give me a holler. This combo sure surprised me. Who thought with off the shelf parts you could make 625 at the fly at 5000 rpms.
 
Never mind - just saw the cardomain link - blowthrough set up - nice numbers Smock. Don't know about those shiny 'player' wheels though! :) Just kidding - looks like you enjoy it, that's what matters most.

Smock - have you got pics? How is the supercharger configured? Are you blowing through the carb after the intercooler? Is the carb boxed? How in the world are you passing smog out there with that set up - although I guess the 85 was a carbed car, wasn't it?
 
Easy, Im from Illinois. Nothing like having a california mustang with Illinois plates. Pics are on my cardomain link. Supercharger is where the AC was, then it points down, heads to the intercooler in front of the radiator, then through the passenger fender area, out through that hole, and into the carb hat. This is a blowthrough setup so no box needed. Those boxes are like 600 bucks, but the hat was 200 for the polished one.
 
are you running race fuel.. 12.8-13:1 with 28 degrees is pretty lean and risky. hot humid day and the chance for detonation may be pretty good that lean and that much total timing on a boosted application.. nice numbers but i'd fatten it up a bit to 11-11.5:1 and back the timing down to 22-24 total if it was mine and on pump gas. I just saw your intercooled so you might be alright with timing but I'd still fatten it up a bit. IMO your pushing the limits of the stock block.. mine didn't last long with 461 rwhp 17 degrees total timing and 10.8-11:1 a/f ratio. block flexed and blew a head gasket and melted my tfs head but it was completely factory with no girdle..
 
When I got there it was around 13.5-14, so we fattened it up to 12.8. Perfect for naturally aspirated is 14.7 to 1, so running 12.8 on an intercooled motor is pretty safe. Procharger told me I could run total timing if I wanted because of the supercharger. I think its pretty safe, but yes, the power is at the max for the block, even with the main support. I think Im pretty safe at 12.8-13 with intercooler, aluminum heads, BTM, and 5000k shift point.
 
Well good luck with it. Personally I think your pretty lean both on your motor and the N/A motor a/f you refferenced. Remember most of the time what a car does on the dyno is not real world. If your on the edge on the dyno, then on a hot, humid summer day with real world load your will be often be over the edge on the street or track. the engine is hot, air is hot, air is humid, fuel system is hot, etc etc. I realize your running the I/C so you have a lower intake charge temp but I've talked to a few guys that were running 12-12.5:1 and broke pistons and blew gaskets after the dyno session. That's why most tuners will back the timing down, and fatten it up to give you a saftey margin for all weather condtions on pump gas street cars. Just my $.02 and experience with boost and different tuners but i'd give yourself a bigger saftey margin. Loosing a few hp is well worth not breaking parts IMO. Personally I wouldn't take ATI's word for much.. I can't remember all the 2v post that were blowing up with the I/C and ATI's chip. The I/C definetly allows for a more aggressive tune but 13-1 scares me.
 
You have to remember that the 13 only comes in at 4900 where I would shift. At 2050 its at 11, then dips between 10.6 to 11.2 between 2051 to 3269. Then at 3231 it slowly climbs from 11.4 to 12.5 at 4660 until it slowly creeps to 13.0 at 4900. Then it really rises but we backed off before that point. The rise is due to the smaller carb and intake. So really for most of the run its in the high 10s to low 12s until it starts to slowly climb at higher rpms. Its pretty safe. Plus, the timing cannot advance past 28, so even if I go up in rpms, it wont rise anymore. I dont think you could get anymore reserved then this setup.
