So last Friday night I took my girl to the track for the first time. This was completely on a whim and I went there straight from work. My car was completely loaded down with crap from work and I had a race weight of 3600 lbs. But here are the numbers. I need to work on my launches.

Best et: 14.4
Best 60': 2.17
Best trap: 98

I was told I should be able to get down to a 2.0 60' so if I do that I don't see why I can't bust out a 14.2 or 14.1. I was on street tires but totally hooking and bogging down. I was too antsy to get off the line to completely feather it.

Feel free to give pointers or any comments you feel like saying.

What was your tire pressure?

Nice times for a first timer, I ran similar numbers my first time out with mufflers, K&N and Sumitomo's.

Was this at HRP or Sealy? Cut some of the weight out next time as that is pretty heavy

I was running 23 psi. My first run I ran with 32 and did a half ass burn out because the guy mopping the track wouldn't move. I eneded up spinning through 1st. I ran at HRP. It was great b/c since it was halloween no one was there. It was dead. I am going again friday with an empty car and less gas. I am very competitive with myself.

Hahaha the addiction has set in. I can't wait to have my car fixed so i can get to the track. It's too bad the 1/4 mile track near me is like an hour and a half(Beach Bend Raceway Park), i'll have to settle for an 1/8th miler.

Not too bad, especially for your first time at the track. I've actually seen a few stock cars go 13.8-13.9 at HRP around 100-101 with a negative DA. Gotta love the fast track. What was the DA?

A 2.000 sixty foot should knock off around .30-3.35 of overall ET. Where are you shifting the car at? What was the 1/8 mile speed and ET?

Nice to see a fellow Bellaire/West U/Meyerland resident around. I near all 3.

Looking forward to meeting you out there especially with this cooler weather sitting in. Of course I am not in a rush to get my car put back together so it might be a while, though I will get some passes in while its cool out

drop your 6ft to a 1.9 and your at 14.0 right there.get some sticky tires on it and pop out a 1.7 and your down to 13.6 then loose some weight and it just gets better

With it being my first time in the Mustang It was hard to concentrate on all the factors. I was trying to shift right before redline. I haven't got it dynoed so I don't know a good shift point. A light would be great. Any shift point tips? On the slicks topic. I wasn't slipping at all so, correct me if I am wrong, I don't see how they would give me a better launch. I just didn't have the power to keep the RPMs up. I was launching at 4k and didn't have a problem hooking up, just bogging down. If anyone is gonna be out at HRP this friday let me know. I will also be at the weekly Kemah meet on saturday too.

I will get back to you with the 1/8 mile. Some girl didn't like looking behing her before backing up so my car is in the body shop. Get it back tomorrow though. Thats where my slips are.

Once you get a few more passes, the better times will come The weather has been good for the track and will only get better.

I sadly won't be HRP ready until likely the end of this month. I still need to order some headers while the motor is out and I have been busy with other things so haven't even touched the car in a few weeks.

DA is density altitude, the lower the number, the more power you will make and generally the faster you will go. A few factors including temp, altitude, dew point are used. It originally was used by pilots. HRP is at or slightly below sea level, and when a cold front comes through, we get nice air to run in.

Can't wait Maddox, I'll be there when it happens. Too bad I got convinced to take the old lady to Chicago in December for her graduation so my plans are going to be put off even longer

Like Winters said, concentrate on DA, it will help you standardize your runs to use for comparison purposes, despite fluctuations in weather/temp/barometric pressure, etc.

Just make more passes, thats how you'll learn what works and what doesn't. I'd suggest lowering your shift points and seeing what happens. Trying shifting at 5500 rpms and see if you find yourself bogging. The more you run the more you'll learn. Just keep records so you can make educated tweaks.

If you're looking for your next mod, I'd suggest gears. They're a drag racer's best friend. I couldn't cut any better than a 2.2 60-ft with my weak stock 2.73 gears. I had to slip the clutch something fierce to bring it out of the hole with any kind of authority. Once the 4.10s went in I could cut a 2.0 60-ft all day long, and I'm a terrible launcher. Obviously you want to maximize your existing combo before you move on, but gears sure do make the learning curve more fun.

3.27s is what I always thought But what do I know..I had the lovely 3.08 in the auto

The s197's have an option for the 3.55 rear gear. New Edge's have the 3.27
