yeah it's pretty common in Le Mans and clubs classes. Happens when letting off the gas all at ounce and down shifting, ends up pushing unburnt fuel outta the exhaust valve. You can buy kits for street cars that come w/ spark plugs that go into the exhaust tip that light purposefully fed unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Doesn't sound like a healthy thing to do tho

I've actually had some fire come out of my car at the track I took a tune off and was making a regular pass and in between manual shifts, there was some flame. Needless to say, after having it happen twice, the tune went back on.
