I don't think there's any harm in breaking off the tabs. Apparently, aftermarket sensors come without them anyway so they can be used at any position.

Thanks man. I will flop the sensors this weekend. It's odd that the wire harness on the 02 sensors have different guide tabs. The connection on the sensors are also differnent colors (one is blue the other pink). I'll keep you guys posted. Pearl02.

Update: I flip flopped the rear 02 sensors this afternoon. I started the car to put it on the ramps and I noticed the cel was off this time. The pcm still had the p0430 code still stored in it. I cleared the code after I got the sensors swopped. I drove the car about 30 miles tonight. No cel so far. What would make the cel not come on after it's been on for a week? Does it go thru so many cycles before it shuts the light off? I did a buld check and the bulb that shows the cel is still working. I keep you guys posted. Pearl02.

Give it some time. If it really is an O2 sensor thats bad the code will come back.

Just wanted to keep you guys updated. I switched the rear sensors around and driven the car for almost a week. No cel as of yet. Tomorrow I'm going to hook up my scan tool. After I switched the sensors around I still had a pending code. I believe this was due to the pcm not completeing it's test cycle. I let you guys know what I find tomorrow. Pearl02.

Look's like my car is good now. According to my scan tool all systems test have been completed and the car is ready for emissions testing. Thanks for all the info. Pearl02.

Let me know the next time you get ready to throw out a set of O2 sensors with 20~30K on them - I'll buy them from you

I will give him 1 dollar more than your offering.. Those are perfectly good sensors..

Part of the 02 monitor system tests the response time of the 02's and the pcm will set a slow response code when the sensor is bad.. My taurus has over 155k on it's original 02's and they respond just as well as brand new ones..

the ones in my mustang have 87k on them.

The obd2 02 monitor is very good at telling a problem with the 02 itself from a problem detected by a 02 sensor.. Ford even released a TSB telling us service techs to stop throwing 02 sensors at p0171-174 or p0172-175 codes since it won't fix it. I tell rookie techs this all the time, the chance of both upstream 02's going bad at the exact same time is like lottery odds.. look at the live data and look for vac leaks.

as far as the guy with the p0430 if he has aftermarket cats you can get this code with them because the high flow aftermarket cats are not as clean as the factory ones.. You can get the cat monitor shut off in the tune and just forget about it.

If it's the factory cats monitor the upstream and downstream for that bank on live data if they match the cat is junk.
