Yeah! For that very reason I love the auto...esp when you let it tach out to 6800!!! It is a different animal for sure past 6000! Next time I go to the track I'm going to experiment with different PSIs in the stock tires to se if I can get down a few tenths. I was quite amazed at the amount of traction there as. On the street my car will spin all the way through first if I take off WOT. The last 2 runs I was revving it to about 1700-1800 RPM and that helped launch me with what looked like little wheel spin.

Oh well It was just a test and tune day and I was out to see what my car would do and have fun...which I did! I saw many cars(both S197s and MACH 1s with the passenger seats removed as well as the spare tire and some even had the rear seats pulled and on the ground as well. I had everything in there still, plus my son's car seat In the picture I posted here you will notice the GT just like mine in the back where he had what seemed like half his interior on the ground. For the N/A S197s, I was one of the fastest

chubhunter, the link that bigcat posted has a lot of good information and is a great place to start. I'll tell you though, nothing beats practice. You can read all of the information you can on the net and then get up to the line and freak out a little and roast the tires! That's exactly what happened to me for the first several times, but after a lot of practice, you'll get the hang of it. Aside from the tactics of launching, just remember, take your time, don't get over anxious, and don't pay attention to the person in the other lane your first time out. If you go out there trying to straight up race him, I'd be willing to bet you won't pay attention to your launch and blow it. Just practice and get the feel of how to run it and what your comfortable at and you'll have a blast!

Also a quick tip, the clock doesn't start until you roll across the sensors at stage, so don't pay any attention to your reaction time, it has nothing to do with your over all time. Again, if your lined up with some beefed up car that you know will beat you, let him take off first so he doesn't distract you with trying to launch, at least until your comfortable in launching.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to add, I typically will rev to around 3k and then slip the clutch out. I still get considerable spin going in to 2nd, but that's what stock 235's will do for you!

I always laugh a little when ever I see people that take out all of their seats and things out of a STREET car! I know, I know, people try to get the best times possible, but come on, it's a street car! If you're Mustang is primarily a drag car, that's perfectly acceptable, but when you're bragging about your times to someone on the street and they ask if you want to run them, what are you going to do, say hold on, let me take my seats and spare out?

Flame away if you like, it's just my opinion.

+1000 friday nights at MAM are not bracket races, so you dont have to have a dial in or worry about your reaction time.

You know, I'm probably one of the only one's, but I like test and tune better than bracket or class racing. I love getting out there and not paying attention to the other person and just running the hell out of my car and practicing different launching techniques to see what works best for me. Hell, most of us street cars at my little po-dunk track (chain link fence up to the track that you can stand at!) just do test and tune and have fun!

I love that track though, everyone backs there truck/car up to the fence and turns up the radios then breaks out the coolers! Shoot, I've seen people bring grills and grill out!

Edit: I guess I better add though that the people with the coolers aren't the ones' running down the track, they're the one's just hanging out to watch.

Thats seems like you are running a pretty good time and the car sounds mean. Where in VA are you at I am about an 1:30 away from hagerstown in western PA Anyhow Good Job

I ran my best time last week, which was close to your 1/8 time, so im wondering what i can do in the 1/4. This was with no mods and 17 psi in the 18" stock BFG's.I really want some gears and start modding, but hate to spend money right now.

iskwezm, I don't see why you couldn't run some 13.5s. Your MPH should be a bit slower I imagine with no tuner, but with consistant 60' times like that(1.989)will help you tremendously. Our #'s are SO close up to the 330' mark.

Haha! 20 seconds? I do the exact same thing If I screw something up, I just coast down so everyone doesn't think I'm trying!

Kidding, I can remember one time I was doing a burnout behind the tree and went smooth past the tree! It seems like I had to back up forever to get staged! Yeah, that was embarrassing.

My best 60 foot on the stock tires was a 1.90, but i feel this thing is struggling to rev to redline once its in 3rd gear and 4th is worse.I was just trying to see how fast i can get it to go with no mods.But i think im doing good so far with a heavy a$$ stock convertible, but i would love some 4.30's

With the SCT tuner running the 93 octane tune, my car pulls very hard(6800 RPM shift points)in all 4 gears going down the track! It will lift the front pretty good on take off(NOT the tires), bark 2nd hard, then into 3rd and 4th the car kicks pretty hard! I cross the line at 5400 RPM and it's still pulling hard!

i went to the 1/8th track last night. my MPH increase on every single run, but i never had a consistent 60' or ET. best trap speed was 83.37 mph. i am hoping to get some more seat time and improve on that number some more. my 60' were in the 2.10-2.25 range.

i need some more practice with my 60' times, but for now i am using trap speed to measure gains.

I went to the track last night as well. My average 60ft. was 2.2, average 1/8th time was 9.1 and my average speed was 78mph. Hope to do better next time.

I have heard that trap speed is the best way to gauge performace. It is more consistant than ET.
