First time to the track on thursday...Advice welcome

Hey all, I am headed to the 1/4 track for the first time on thursday with the Mach 1. Does anybody have any advice or speculations to what I should run (Topeka, Kansas evening)

If you're going to be running on street tires, drop your air pressure down to 26-24psi and launch at about 2800. Dump the clutch just enough to spin the tires clean before you stage, but stay out of the water box. You'll run o.k., but you'll want some DR's for the future.

Have fun is most important. But try not to get water on the tires, if you do, get it off!! Lowering your tire pressure does help. Just practice before you go out there launching. Find a back road and practice launching at 2000 then 2500 then 3000. Find that sweet spot between spinning violently and bogging. Don't dump the clutch either. But practice is the best thing you can do.

Yep, the launch is where it's at. Dumping the clutch is great for a burnout but does nothing for getting you down the track.
I'd like to switch CManT1914's advice around though, so as to not confuse - You want to find that sweet spot between bogging and spinning violently. A minor detail, but I just wanted to make sure you understand that a hard launch 1500 will cause bog, while a launch at 4K will probably be a violent spin. Somewhere in the middle, with some fancy clutch manipulation will get you out of the box and thru the 60' lights in something just over 2 sec. This is a great measurement of your success - the 60' time.

Oh, and as far as what you should run....look for a solid mid 13 once you settle down some...get some gears and you should see the 12's pretty quick...Let me suggest the .30's!!!!!!!

another way to learn is to sit in the stands and watch how everyone else does it on street tires
you will see many different ways people do things. try some of their tactics to see if it works for you and bottom line....have fun! that is all that matters.

slip slip sliperoo the clutch. isn't great for clutch wear but it's the best way to launch on street tires (you can't just dump it). and yeah, your first time out definitely don't worry about your RT. most people who try to go right when it hits green end up dumping and spinning.

It's all good, I actually had to read your post twice before I realized what you changed. lol, you're right, low rpm launch = bogging, high rpm launch = requires new tires.
