OK, so I finally got my boot. Problem is, there is too much slack in the middle after buttoning it to the interior panels. Is there a trick or something I need to know? Help is greatly appreciated!

Did you make sure that you have it lined up right in the grove behing the rear seat? Mine is kind of a bit@h to get on perfect. That's due to the fact that it was folded up in the trunk for almost 18 months though.

The buttons are snapped on and I have extreme slack in the middle... something just doesn't seem right.

It's hard to explain typing words on a computer how to install the boot. Did you get directions with it? Pictures help. If you didn't get any, check the owners manual. I'm not sure, but they might be in there. I don't have mine with me right now, I'm at work. Sorry

I left mine out and laid flat for all of last winter, and by spring it was much easier to install. So, I think you are right that at least part of the problem, is leaving it folded up.

I did find that holding the boot perpendicular to the car, inserting the tab into the slot behind the rear seat, and then rotating the boot down, helps to get it into that slot evenly and completely.

sounds to me like you're not putting the tab into the slot on the back of the rear seat. It can be a bitch to get it to go in right.

Hey guys read the initial post a little closer. You guys are talking about the hard boot, that when the sides are folded in, can be fit in the trunk. "If there's nothing else in there".
Sounds like he's talking about the vinal one that snaps on.

Hey "04ShadowGT" don't waste your time with the soft cover. They never look as good as the hard ones. This is the one you want: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33652&item=7919186279&rd=1

I've wind tested mine up to 110mph with no problems. Just put it on and set the car in the sun for a few hours so it will loosen up and mold itself to the car and then when you take it off prop it up somewhere and it'll fit perfect everytime.

Drop me a PM and I can send you some pictures of it installed.

The 2004 factory rigid boot also snaps on.

I know that Ford changed the design in how it attaches about 1/2 through the 2002 model year, and carried that change through the 2003 and 2004 models. My 2003 has snaps.

That might also be why the boot you referenced being auctioned off on eBay only fits '94 to 2001 models.

OK, the one I found got on eBay said in the auction it would work on 01-04. Anyways, me and my dad got it to fit somewhat, and finally got the tab in behind the back seat. So, I'm gonna leave it out in the sun all day tomorrow and see if that helps. Thanks for your help guys!

I just bought my car on April 2nd of this year. The boot was in the trunk in the package since November of '02 when it was built. I've only had it on the car like 2 or 3 times. I store it in the box from my CDC light bar, but I'll try laying it out flat in the basement over the winter. I'll also try putting some weight on the spot that has the awkward bend in it to see if that helps get rid of it.
