i have been working on my high idling issue on my bone stock 91 gt for a little while now. and today i was going to set the base idle all over again and i figured i would take a feeler gauge and see how much the throttle body butterfly was open before i started. So i am looking at the throttle blade and it has a 1/4' hole in it? Looked all stock, no drill marks but I didn't think it was supposed to have this there. So i put a bolt in it and it now idles a 650 rpm all day long instead of the 1100 rpm it had been doing. Just wanted to share this, i guess this should be another one for the archives.

Yep, some butterflies have the hole in them. They can whistle pretty good sometimes too.

Just be sure whatever you use to block it cant come dislodged.

Yeah, no kidding! Wouldn't that suck...Although, I guess the head is facing toward the inlet side of the TB, so actually it would probably just remain in your intake piping as opposed to being lodged into your intake. Either way, whatever you ulimately decide to plug the hole with would probably stay there forever w/ some JB Weld.

i used a small screw with a nylon lock washer and then put red loctite on that. it may hurt the flow a little but it is way better than having it idle so high.

yes, it still has an idle screw in it like normal.

hissin50, so you have actually seen this before? i asked a few of my friends about it and they have never seen it on a stock throttle body.

Yea it might stay in the piping, until he gave it any throttle. The blade would open and it would run the risk of being sucked in after all.

Yea JB Weld is the stuff!

Most TB's have a hole in the butterfly to keep the pressure slightly lower on that side to prevent a sticking pedal feeling.

...that makes sense, i ve seen this before too, my friends stang idled really weird and noticed my throttle blade was different than his (we had just done new intake) and he put in the other blade and ran perfect...i was surprised how that affected the idle like that
