Just purchased the Flow Tech 12116-1 Ceramic longtubes @ www.Jegs.com
$279.99 w/free shipping. The painted are $159.99.
These are clones of the Hooker set. (same company and jigs).
But less than half the price.
Hookers.......http://holley.com/products.asp?product=6233-1HKR
Flow Tech.....http://holley.com/HolleyNews/article.asp?ID=90
The Terminator Axlebacks are similar to the Hooker's but only $189.99

Jeg said the Headers will not ship until 12/31/05

sweet!! i knew as the competition increased, the prices would come down!! this is an affordable ceramic header! now we just need a shootout between LTs for comparison of power gains/$. good find!

SPDBREAK... you rock!!!.. I was in no way going to buy hearders for 900+.. but for $275.. I just might.. are these really as good a hookers? We might need someone to do a write up.. haha.. I dont know anything about the setup.. all I have is the SLPs... but from your post if I get the headers I will need to do "other things". I'm lost

What about the O2 Sensor Extensions and 2 High Flow Cats?

The stainless works kit (which I am kind of leaning towards) includes two cats O2 Extensions and new H-pipe for $1300. I am not sure how much of that cost is the actual headers.

My Bassani cats are just fwd of the X-pipe or (stock H-pipe hangers). The O2 sensor cables had to be popped out of their standoffs to get more slack, works great and the wiring is not under a strain.
If extensions are needed though you can get them here....

http://www.dynospeedracing.com/ford_gt_05-06.php $34.00 a pair.

The Stainless works headers only are $899.00 thru summitracing.com, but do come with extensions.

Don't know about the SC issue.
If you want more CFM @ high rpm, bigger would be better, but would sacrifice low end TQ.
Not many people run their cars in the 4000+ rpm range anyways.

Most headers out are 1 5/8":
All the shorties (worthless for $500-600 for 5HP)
Shorties 1 5/8: Edelbrock, Doug Thorley, Hooker, JBA, BBK, MAC, FRPP.
Longtubes 1 5/8: Hooker, BBK, SLP, MAC, Stainless works, JBA, Flow Tech, MAC.
Longtubes 1 3/4: MAC, Dynatech, Stainless works, Kooks.
Might have missed one or two.
I do like the Ceramic over the straight Stainless due to the heat X-fer is lower with Ceramic. Less under hood heat, higher internal tube temp keeps the gasses at a higher velocity, which does make a bit more power.

I bought a pair of Chevy long tubes as a child (16) for a whole 25 dollars. I sure hope the quality is better than when I bought my flo-tech headers. I always say you get what you pay for, but perhaps time will tell with these. I wish you the best.

Ok I'm confused,if I bought these long tube headers could I bolt them up to my car with no other parts? Strait to the stock H? And the cats would be removed?

Yes they will sort of......

Shorties are the headers that will bolt to your current stock system w/out cutting.

Longtubes
these are 30" long.
The easy way, cut your pipes aft of the converters (on the horz plane), plug in some MIL O2 SIMS and go......

Other wise move your stock cats (or buy aftermarket) to just fwd of the H-pipe hanger. The cats will no longer sit above the gas pedal fwd of the firewall, but rather in the center where your floor mat is.

You are correct.
I have no doubt these will not be as high a quailty as the Hookers, but rather "their seconds". Judging from the looks of both, along with they are both made from the same parent company, I am pretty sure they are using the same jigs.

I'm not into cosmetics, and if the welds are ugly (a la BBK, JBA, or MAC) it does not matter.

Thanks,now it makes sence :flag:

I'll post pics of the steps when I start the install.
Still no shipping changes yet (12/31)

I have some bandage rolls on order also.....
Slightly sticky tape you'll get when giving blood.....
http://www.first-aid-product.com/industrial/cohesive-elastic-bandage-wrap.htm
Also avail @ Walgreens.
Wrapping the headers prevents scratches and fingerprints while installing.

I will be removing the Bassani X-pipe setup I have and using the Bassani Hi-flow cats with the stock H-pipe. I don't care for the X-pipe Dual Honda Rice-boy sound.
So if anyone is interested I'll be selling the Bassani setup (Aluminized) with the Off-road legs (since I'm keeping the cats).

When all is done, I'll have the Flow techs into the Hi-flow cats, stock H-pipe, Stock Midpipes, Magnapacks for mufflers.

Dangit I just ordered a Bassani X-pipe from Latemodel Restoration last week... they had free shipping on the 22nd & 23rd. I just got the stainless mid-pipe version (since I'm getting longtubes) for $269 shipped.

So does the X on the 3V's sound much different than the X on older Mustangs? I've always LOVED the X sound on the 2V & 4V 4.6's and I had an X on my 87 5.0 and LOVED it...

I'd take ceramic coated headers over stainless ones any day. If you are talking about collectors-back then stainless is a nice option but the engine compartment temps are a concern with stainless headers.

It's not a bad sound but.......

I started with the Bassani stainless axle-backs. Loved the sound and got loads of complements at street lights etc...
I bought the Bassani X-pipe with Cats + Off-road legs (5 PC.), and the Bassani axlebacks started to suck. More of an annoying sound VS a muscle car note as before.
Bought a set of JEGS axles-backs. No real change.
Bought a set of Magnaflow Magna-packs. No real change.

Therefore in "MY" opinion (I'm no expert but but I know what "I" like), the X-pipe setup on the 3V is not a viable way to go, unless you like the "rice-boy" on duals sound.

I looks as if the H-pipes are becoming more popular now. JBA -H, Pypes X&H, JEGS X&H, MAC -H, SLP -X, Corsa -X, Bassani -X, Hooker -X.

I just came across this site............

Take a listen to the sound files @ http://www.brenspeed.com/info/soundfiles.html

Quote from their website:
"2005 Mustang GT with a Pypes off road H-pipe and MAC mufflers. This is a great alternative for some cars running mufflers that do not sound good with an X pipe. If your friends tell you your 05 sounds like a Honda this off road H pipe will put the muscle back into your mustang when ran with the correct mufflers. We expect to have this off road H-Pipe ready for shipment December 12th."
