Hey guys, i found out that my flywheel is basicly shot. ANd looking through different places etc, i see about 3 choices, the Cast iron (ford racing replacement) Steel, and Aluminum. I knwo the aluminum weighs about 14lbs. And the steel i think is like 23-24lbs... But how much does the Ford racing cast iron one weigh? And is it work spending $220 for the steel, or even $350-$370 for the aluminum one......

careful on ur planning though. im in the middle of the same sort of thing building my driveline since my tranny took a dump on me. at first i really really wanted an aluminum flywheel but as i read more it seems less practical for the street. it seems more of a high reving thing u'd use for serious drag racing or road courses where you gets lots of high rpm's. i could be a lil wrong on some of this stuff, just wanted to pass along what i've been reading

I heard the same thing about the aluminum ones, something about they are quicker off the line and rev faster, but once they get up to speed like 5 or 6k they start to slow u down or something i dunno, I would go with the steel one.

the lighter the flywheel, the quicker the motor can rev (all other things being equal). but there is some inertial dampening that occurs with the heavier flywheels (slower to rev, slower to come down).

ie: better for highway cruising, not always having to be on it.

Yeah, looks like i'm going to go with the billet steel one. Lighter then stock but 1/4 the prce of the aluminum one. I've also herd of things when the flywheel is to light it'll idle crappy etc. Plus the cost is just way to much for what i want/need. Thx 4 the help guys!
