For those of you that tried the $50 paint job

How is it holding up? Most of what I've read, people are happy with the results immediately after the paint job... but i'm curious if they are still happy a year or 2 later.

Anyone got some time/miles on a $50 paint job?

You talking about buying the paint and spraying the car yourself right?

A friend of mine has a 50-100 dollar paint job on his 70 that is several years old. He sprayed it himself. The last time I saw it the paint still looked good.

If you decided to do this just make sure you prep it real good and use a quality brand paint.

If your not confident that you can do it then I would probably just take it to maaco for the ambassador 200 dollar paint job, if you need an OK paint job.

a friend of mine uses krylon in spray cans on his cars. most of them were painted at least two years ago and the paint is still doing fine. and if anything happens he just grabs another can and touches up the paint as needed.

Personally, I would rather do all that work to some good UV-resistant automotive clear-over-color even if it costs a few hundred bucks. There is a texture shot of paint on that Corvair in the "18 month update" and it looks just as rough as a drive-through single stage shoot.....and white is a very kind color. In the wind damage pictures, it also appears that the Rustoleum doesn't adhere that well.

While it's not thick oil-base in a can, I'm using Rustoleum rattlecan outdoor satin black on the roof of my Mustang(was a rotten vinyl top) until I paint the whole car. I am lucky to get a year out of it before it oxidizes.
