Has anyone had any experience with Ford Cobra Engines. I am looking at the 331/347. Thanks.

You may want to talk to the Cobra guys

I’ve gotten lots of good info from these guys www.clubcobra.com
I take it you’re putting this in a Cobra replica? 8K is about twice what I built my 390 for. Don’t know if I hit 400hp but it gets the Mach 1 around darn good.

If you do what to buy a crate, check out www.keithcraft.com/our_engines.html
Keith posts on the clubcobra forum and can answer any questions you want. I talked to him about building me a 390 but I didn’t have the cash.

Another good source for FE info is www.network54.com/Forum/74182

Hope this helps.

same as mustangengines.com?

I think this is the same company. I looked at them at first, and I got a lot of good feedback (do a search of the forums under "crate engines" or "crate motors", you should find some good stuff. In general, it boiled down to this:

-fordracing.com has warranties on their crate motors, so consider that

-DSS racing is arguably the best builder out there of crate motors, and you can really customize it but it's $.

-mustangengines or fordcobraengines is probably OK, but you never know and without a warranty . . . there are just some horror stories out there about companies that sell crate motors. You basically have to understand the strength of every component that goes into it and how they work together if you want to be sure they're not putting in one weak link into the system.
I'm looking at the same thing you are, but a 351w stroker. I am probably going to go with DSS racing for the crate motor for the following reasons:

1) I just don't have the time to learn every little bit about parts selection for my motor, and I don't have the time to build it myself.

2) what I want, fordracingparts doesn't have. 351w in a 392, 408, etc., fuel injected, with close to 500hp with low compression so it could potentially be supercharged.

3) I'm thinking long term, so I figure I can afford to do it right the first time, so I'm going with a DSS custom build when I get the $ saved.

you might try fordracingparts if you want a warranty or DSS if you want the best, IMHO.

Good luck!
Joe
